Advantages: Prices, Range of Services, proffesionalism and personal attention
Disadvantages: ---------
It was coming up to my graduation ball fast. I had the dress, the shoes and the bag and was ready to go, whilst trying them on my mum turned to me and said "right, all you need now is a tan." When I looked in the mirror I saw she was right and that my outfit definitely would look better if I was a bit more tanned. However I am naturally pale and have blonde highlighted hair so the last thing I wanted to do was to try and apply a tan at home after having heard horror stories about streaks and going orange. So I searched around for the best place to get a fake tan in the Nottingham area.
I found Beauty Temple advertised online and nervously gave them a call to compare their prices to other places. I was a little worried as when was best to get the tan. I was hoping to be able to get it about a week before the ball and mentioned this to them. They politely told me it would probably have faded and it is best to get it done the day before. So I booked it for the day before the ball even though I knew I was going to be ridiculously busy and tired after going on a long trip up to Hadrian's Wall the day before.
I was really very nervous before I arrived at Beauty Temple. I had never been to a spa before and I had never had a fake tan before. I had no idea what to expect. Beauty Temple is in the very centre of Nottingham, it is conveniently located near to Euro Car Park but is also less than a 5 minute walk from the Victoria Centre Bus Station. It is just off Nottingham Market Square and is opposite "Fopps". I had walked past it many times but never even noticed it existed so I was rather surprised when I found it. As I entered the Spa the door chimed and serene music washed over me. All the beauticians were wearing beautiful purple kimono style uniforms which added to the Japanese aura they created. There was fresh tea and water available in the waiting area and massive comfy sofas or chairs to sit on. It really was quite a bizarre experience to walk off a busy city street into such a relaxing atmosphere. What was even better was that once in side the city noises could not be heard and as the shop was mid way below street level not much could be seen either.
As this was my first visit to the Spa I was asked to fill out a form. I was impressed at the professionalism and knew that as these kinds of checks were being done I was in safe hands. The form asks about allergies, skin types, doctor's details, medications and illnesses. Once I had completed the form one of the girls arrived to check it over with me and make sure I was still able to undergo the procedure I wanted. They had told me over the phone how to prepare for the fake tan and so there were no problems when I arrived. I was still quite nervous as I was led through to the tanning room. The room was closed off and private. I was left to undress alone (to my horror finding out I needed to be completely naked for the tanning process, except for a pair of paper pants which were so very attractive). I stood dreading the arrival of the girl who was going to tan me but when she arrived she was so completely professional that I was not in the slightest bit embarrassed, which was such a huge relief. She took me through what she was going to do step by step and then when we were going through it she gave me instructions as we went along. After it was over she gave me leaflets of how to look after my tan to try and make it last as long as possible and told me about their special offers. It was all over painlessly and quickly lol. Amazingly the full body St. Tropez tan is only £20, and if you are student you are able to get a 10% discount! I was thrilled as I always thought it would be expensive to get a professional tan. At the time there was an offer on where if you spent £40 in one visit you were able to get a free tanning session. Sucker that I am I brought some products to bump me up to £40 not realising that with my student discount it would be cheaper just to pay for it twice lol. The second time around was just as great as the first. The atmosphere was heavenly, with some beautiful scented candles lit and the calm music was still playing. I knew what was coming and so was not at all stressed out and was able to better enjoy the experience.
Obviously Beauty Temple do not just do Fake Tanning. They do a wide range of services which I am yet to try out. There are luxury spa treatments ranging from £55 to £85, these involve massages on different areas of the body and different hot poultices to relieve stress.
Facials range from £30 to £60. They have two broad types. The first is Ytsara which is Thai organic range which is 100% natural exclusive to the Beauty Temple and the second is Elemis. The beauticians will analyse your skin type to determine what is suitable or advisable for your facial. Purifying, hydrating, age lifting, repairing and moisturising facials are available so there is something to suit everyone.
Body Massages can last between 30 minutes and 2 whole hours (which sounds absolutely heavenly!) They even have a massage to help you slim! Massages can be combined with aromatherapy and oils and range from £30 to £90. What is also fantastic is they do a special massage for pregnant women for £56 which focuses on the areas affected by pregnancy (lower back, hands and feet etc.) This would be an absolutely wonderful gift for a mum to be! Body Wraps are also available, including an Ocean Wrap, Detox Wrap, Body Booster, Cellulite and Colon Therapy Wrap, Anti-aging wrap and exfoliating wrap. These range from £40 to £80 and last between 45 minutes and 2 hours.
These aren't the only things available though. They also do threading and waxing, as well as tinting for eyebrows and lashes. They do bridal and wedding make up as well as makeovers, pedicures and manicures. And have you ever just wanted to be taught how to apply make-up properly? Well they do that too in an hour long session for just £35.
If the men are reading this thinking "what about me?" then never fear as the beauty temple also cater for men too. There are a number of massages, facials and hand and foot treatments available as well as the all important waxing ;)
Furthermore there are some great packages available to purchase for special events like Birthdays, Hen nights or for Brides to Be. The Beauty Temple is a gem of a spa, it feels like its in the middle of a peaceful paradise but has the convenience of being easily accessible by public transport or car. Prices are fantastic for what you get and are very competitive. If you want to be treated like you are the only one in the world who matters for an hour or so then I advise you make a trip to the Beauty Temple.
Summary: I want to try all their services.

- 25/08/09 I'm always a bit dubious of fake tans, but with no holiday in the sun planned this year, I am a bit tempted. |
