      Disadvantages

      Excellent treatment with great service

      I went to have my teeth whitened after buying a voucher with Groupon for £44, usually would be £150. I was a bit sceptical as it was so cheap.
      I arrived and was taken into a beauty therapy room where we measured the colour of my teeth against a chart. The chart went from S4 to S30, or something like that, with S30 being the most yellow. I was measured as an S20. I wouldn't say I had horribly yellow teeth or anything, just normal really. I just wanted them to be bright white and healthy looking.
      The assistant, who was lovely, then placed a plastic contraption in my mouth to show all my teeth (I looked like Wallace from Wallace and Gromit).

      It was quite comfortable at first. A blue gel was applied to my gums to protect them and then another gel was applied to all of my teeth. Then a lamp with a UV bulb was placed over my mouth and the assistant left the room and turned the lights out for 20 minutes. It was okay at first, a bit odd. I could have done with a friend there to entertain me really as it was a bit boring. It did become a bit uncomfortable towards the end. I was grateful for the relief when she returned after 20 minutes and let me swill my mouth out. She then applied a fresh layer of gel and I went through the process again for another 20 minutes.

      Then after that I went through it again for a final 20 minutes. So 1 hour in total under the UV bulb. My teeth did sting a little bit in places, but nothing unbearable. More like a really sensitive feeling.

      I swilled my mouth out for a final time and peeled off the blue gel from my gums. When I looked in the mirror I was really surprised. The difference was noticable straight away. My teeth were so much whiter than I thought they would be.
      We measured the colour again and this time I was an S8.

      I was really pleased with the results. I could only eat and drink white coloured foods for the next two days, which wasn't as bad as it sounds. Any excuse to eat a bar of Milkybar! And we could all do with cutting down on tea and coffee. I didn't experience any more sensitivity. I have a small calcium spot on the front of one of my teeth and this was highlighted immediately after the process. The assistant assured me it would settle down and she was right, it's hardly noticable now.

      Funnily enough the following morning on 'This Morning' they were reviewing different teeth whitening methods and apparently some places charge up to £600 for this process. It was also confirmed on the show that this is a safe process and should last about a year - even longer if you don't eat too many staining foods (coffee, curry, red wine etc).
      Would definitely recommend, and now I have had it done I think it would even be worth paying the full price at £150.

      5 star salon service where the staff make a fuss over you

      #################################################
      THE SALON
      #################################################

      Fuss Beauty and Grooming Centre is a modern beauty salon offering a wide range of treatments and therapies. Located centrally in Bristol, you can find the salon on the third floor of The Galleries shopping centre in Broadmead. For those unfamiliar with the area, this is the original main shopping area of the city centre, before the surrounding area was overtaken by the massive Cabot Circus shopping centre.

      Fuss Salon caught my eye as soon as it opened and I ventured in for a look around as I was intrigued. It has a clean, modern look with a minimalist style. Everything is fresh and white, and gives a relaxing feel without being stark or clinical. There are some comfy seats in the waiting area and there is usually some chart pop music playing in the background. There is a space for hairdressing, manicure tables, and the curious aqua massage machine! The reception desk is staffed by helpful ladies who are always on hand to give out information. On my first visit I picked up their treatment brochure and booked in for a massage. It is best to arrange appointments in advance and there are a team of qualified beauty technicians to take care of a wide range of treatments.

      I have visited the salon several times and on each occasion I have received excellent customer service. The staff are friendly and attentive, and were all very thorough in explaining the procedures I was about to go through and what I should expect. I found this hugely helpful as I don't treat myself to this sort of thing often and a lot of the experiences were new to me. I know this might sound a bit clichéd but first impressions do count. All of the staff are immaculately well turned out, with gorgeous hair and flawless make-up. This definitely inspires confidence in their skills and gives a good impression of what you should expect.

      Fuss offers treatments tailored to suit both men and women, and includes everything from hairdressing to tattooing. Their full range covers:
      * Facial and body treatments
      * Brow bar
      * Nail bar
      * Semi permanent make-up
      * Aqua massage
      * Teeth whitening

      * Manicure and pedicure
      * Fillers

      MY EXPERIENCE - MASSAGE
      #################################################

      As I mentioned earlier, the first treatment I went for was a massage. I am passionate about massage and think that it has immense benefits to a person's health and well being. If I had the money this is the one thing I think I would splurge on regularly. I opted for a "Fuss Pressure Point Release" as this technique sounded interesting. It is described as "focussing on the back, neck, shoulders and face, this essential ritual will totally indulge and revive you. Combining deep Swedish and acupressure point massage, to alleviate tension and harmonise the mind and body." A 30 minute session costs £36.00 which is pricey but worth it.

      The treatment room is at the back of the salon away from all the main beauty counters, and is a private secluded area with a closed door. I began my session with a brief chat to my beauty therapist, who talked me through the stages of the massage and then left the room for a few minutes while I removed my shoes and the clothes from my upper half. The room was small and dimly lit to aid relaxation. It was quite warm which was pleasant, and I was also provided with towels to cover my bare skin when it was not being massaged. Music was playing quietly in the background and was left on at my request. I laid down on the massage table and was then shown a range of oils and got to choose which aromatherapy blend I wanted to use. The beauty therapist mixed this up freshly for me and then began the massage.

      She worked thoroughly on my back, using a specific technique to release my pressure points. This is very different to the ordinary large sweeping effleurage movements and was a bit uncomfortable as she was applying the pressure. As soon as her hands lifted away I could really feel the difference and my whole back seemed to loosen up. After working on my back I was then asked to turn over and the same technique was used along my shoulders, neck and face. Finishing with a light head massage was the perfect way to wind down and I was left in a dreamy, blissful state of relaxation. Afterwards I was advised to keep strenuous activity to a minimum for the rest of the day, and drink lots of water to hydrate the body. I work in an office so tend to suffer from hunched shoulders and back pain from being seated at a computer desk all day. After this massage my aches were relieved and my muscles felt more supple. A wonderful experience and one that I hope to repeat!

      MY EXPERIENCE - PIERCING
      #################################################

      I went back to Fuss Grooming and Beauty Salon for an altogether sort of beauty treatment - body piercing! I had wanted my lip pierced for years and always shied away from it as I am a bit of a wimp when it comes to pain. On a spur of the moment whim I decided to book in and get my piercing done as a Christmas present to myself! I booked in and nervously awaited the day when my appointment was due. It costs £20.00 for a lip piercing which is a competitive price and includes basic jewellery.

      When I got to the salon I was surprised to find that my lovely little petite blonde masseuse was also a certified in body piercing! It was nice to be going through this with someone who I had already met, and she took me into the treatment room which was just past the massage rooms at the back of the salon, down a small corridor. The room itself was brightly lit and had no decoration, just plain white walls and stainless steel cabinets. Traditionally lip piercings are made just below the lip in the chin area, but this was not what I wanted so during my pre-piercing consultation I was given the time to explain exactly what I was after. After listening to my requests my beauty therapist drew on a provisional mark and then gave me a small mirror to see if I liked the placement. I wanted the piercing to be right up on the line of my lower lip in the centre, and it was spot on from what I could see.

      After confirming that I was happy with this the next thing I had to do was lay back on a padded bed that was raised slightly at one end. A small metal clamp was attached to my lip, and then the needle came next. I had mentioned I was nervous so the therapist talked me through every step of what she was doing and was very reassuring. The needle is a lot smaller than what I was expecting, and has an extremely sharp point. The actual piercing was done in only seconds, and in all honesty I could hardly feel it. As the newly pierced hole is formed the jewellery is then attached. Because the lip area is prone to swelling after piercing I was informed I would need to have a hoop in place until the swelling subsided. I was given a quick but gory explanation of why you should not have a stud put into a new piercing, and was happy with this as I wanted a lip ring anyway. It felt a little uncomfortable as my jewellery was fitted but other than that I was feeling fairly numb and there was no great deal of pain like I had imagined. Ball closure rings are used at this stage, which means that a hoop with one open section will be placed over the lip and through the piercing hole, and then a small ball with two strategically placed dents will be positioned into the gap in the lip ring and the ends of the ring will hold the ball into place to close it.

      After my piercing had taken place I was advised to sit for a few minutes to gather my bearings and ensure that I was ok and rested well enough before leaving the salon. I was also given advice on how to care for the new piercing, including rinsing with salt water to cleanse the area, and ensuring that the jewellery was left in place for up to 6 weeks until the swelling had completely reduced.

      In the few weeks following I did not have any problems. It did become a bit painful and it felt odd having this new piece of metal in my lip. It took a while of getting used to but I loved the way it looked and was really happy that the placement was just what I wanted. When the time came and the swelling went down I wanted to change the original ring for a smaller piece of jewellery. A larger sized hoop had been used in the first place to accommodate for the swelling, and afterwards it felt loose and bulky. I retuned to the salon and within 10 minutes I had been seen in to the treatment room, had my hoop changed for me, and received details on what gauge and size would best suit me. I was really happy with this whole process and glad that I chose to have my piercing done at Fuss. My beauty therapist made me feel totally at ease and was incredibly helpful with providing good aftercare. I still have the lip ring in now and am very proud of it!

      MY EXPERIENCE - MANICURE
      #################################################

      The last time I went to Fuss it was just a quick visit as I felt in need for a little pampering and wanted something simple to boost my mood. I chose to have a manicure done as I love my long nails and fancied having someone else look after them and give a more professional look than I could manage myself. I chose to have a "No Fuss Manicure" that I could fit into my lunch break at work. This is described as "our maintenance manicure will instantly revive and hydrate your hands and nails. Includes nail paint." It costs £16.00 for 30 minutes which is reasonable compared to similar treatments from other salons.

      To start with I was seated in a high backed chair at a counter table and my nails were cut and filed into the shape I had agreed upon with my manicurist. I was given a warm bowl of delicately scented soapy water to soak my hands in while I was shown the nail polish colours and made my selection. I decided to have a traditional French manicure with a nude base and white tips. After my nails had soaked I then had my cuticles cut which was not very nice! I've never had this done before and the beauty therapist explained why it should be done and the benefits it has, but I found it somewhat uncomfortable and would never do it at home. After that I was given a quick hand massage while some rich moisturising cream was rubbed into my skin.

      Moving on fairly quickly so as to fit into the 30 minute time slot, the beauty therapist then began to paint my nails. She was very skilled and did this quickly without creating any mess or mistakes. She didn't even have to use guide lines for the tips! I was impressed with this, and the finished look was really classy and grown up. A lot more sophisticated than the bright colours I usually go for. To speed up the drying process she then applied a top coat to finish off, and left me to sit with my hands under the dryer for a few minutes. My nails were not 100% dry after this and I did end up smudging one of them as I paid on my way out. Thinking about it, I would probably ask to pay in advance next time so as to avoid this possible problem! The quality of the polish was very good and my manicure stayed in place for a week before starting to show noticeable signs of wear. For a quick treatment I was very pleased and this is the sort of thing that you can get done quickly to fit in with the rest of your routine.

      CONCLUSION
      #################################################

      The level of customer service and professionalism at Fuss is exceptional. This establishment cares about their customers and this is evident in all areas of the service from booking, to treatment, to aftercare. I like to go here as a treat or to reward myself, and have received the same high level of care across all the areas of treatments that I've tried so far. I would certainly recommend this as a fun, modern, stylish salon that leaves you feeling pampered and indulged.

      At Fuss I feel valued as a customer, respected as a person, and I fully trust the skills and expertise of all the staff. 5 stars without a doubt!
