The prospect of a summer spent hiking in the Andes and rainforests of Venezuela inspired me last October to do something about my general level of fitness following two years of teaching and being largely inactive had not done wonders for my waistline or stamina, friends were already a member of the JJB fitness centre in Northampton and I had used the facilities a couple of times so instead of rejoining my old gym Cannons I went for the newer JJB one, partly because it looked clean and well equipped but also on a like for like basis it was the cheapest one in town. Just one point to note, JJB have been taken over and moving forward this chain of gyms will be ...  Read the complete review

The JJB Fitness Club I go to is the one in Blackburn. Here you can park on the car park for 3 hours for free and their is plenty of space around. However some people who go to the Vue Cinema right next to it! Take up the space which at times can be a problem! The gym here is only charging now 27.00 pounds per month for using the gym. The gym is massive in size and has other features like the swimming pool and more. The gym here is packed out with many people but even with that you still find loads of machines. I mean their is around 10 machines here for one person such as tread mills. There must be around 15 rowing boat machines,20 tread mills and much more. ...  Read the complete review

Just to avoid any confusion JJB Fitness Clubs have just recently changed their names after a buy out to DW Fitness Clubs after the new owner Dave Whelan, the original founder of the JJB empire he has now bought back the gyms and renamed them. I'm a member of the one in Northampton which is located in town on a shopping park so there is good parking which is free and is subject to a three hour limit, the only drw back is that the car park is very busy as on the site there is a Toys R Us and British Homestores. The club is only about three years old and is very modern, there is a big fitness area with lots of cardio machines, a free weight area and ecercise ...  Read the complete review

Crowned Review DW Fitness Clubs: JJB Healthclub: A great way to keep fit and feel good (1041 words)

I have only recently joined JJB Sportsclub about two months ago, switching from another local gym as JJB had a lot more going for it, in my opinion. I am not in any way a bodybuilder or one of the 'beautiful people' that you tend to see in some sportsclubs, so anywhere that I attend has got to feel comfortable for us 'ordinary people' . JJB membership currently costs £37.00 per calendar month for full membership, which means that you can attend at any time, as often as you like, and all areas and classes are open to you. There are cheaper membership plans, but these restrict the times that you can enter the club: Generally this means ...  Read the complete review
