I thought i would try out my local dw fitness centre (preston) for the first time as i was looking at joining up and heard mix reviews about the place. Me, my brother and a colleague visited the gym. First impression we was pretty impressed. We had paid £10 each for a day pass which we was happy to pay. Another local gym (total fitness) welcome new enquiring members with free day pass to trail the gym and get a feel before signing up to a contract but i did not mind paying the day pass fee.
To be fair at first impressions we was happy with the gym. It was clean, had good facilities and reasonable.
We was mainly interested in the leisure aspect of dw but intend to use the gym regularly too. It was approaching closing time and we made our way out. At this point, We had asked a member of staff who was very helpful if we could have a look around and she allowed us to do so. She allowed us to leave our bags at her counter and have a wonder about. It was approaching closely to closing time but we had asked the kind ladys permission and she had allowed us to check the facility out. We was looking around at the equipment and to be fair everything was good.
Next a male member of the staff had come upstairs told us to leave the club immediately as he was not insured for us to be there at that time (10:15)
My group understood and was leaving the club immediately. At this point we did not even assume that he was being forcefull asking us to leave the premises. We had listened to his request and was heading to leave the centre. We thanked the lady for letting us have a look around. Me and my colleague left through the exit and my brother was right behind us approaching the door to leave. He was being rude and being very forceful to leave the premise which we had permission from another member of staff. He then physically pushed my brother out of the door ejecting him towards the glass exit area causing him to injur his leg, ankle and arm as he had landed on it. Also my brother was on his phone and with the force of pushing him, it had knocked his phone and damaged it causing the screen to break. At this point we was furious as anybody would be and the male staff of the gym locked the door. We asked him to explain why he had done this and he was being abusive. He then threatened us and said he his comming outside in 5 minutes and he would deal with us. I angrily responded and said no problem and we would wait for him.
I contact the police immediately and long story short they did their regular inquiries. The didnt take any action but that is a different subject in itself. I asked them to check the gyms cctv as i am 10000% certain that there was evidence to support my claim of assault. The club had told them that the cameras was dummys (clearly not) and they tried to put the sittuation to sleep. The staff had given statements against us which was not true but i know for certain that cameras dont lie and all the evidence is there.
I just want everyone to know about my experience and hope nobody goes through the emotions and distress we have been through. Clearly the staff are not bothered about customer service and i would definitely not return back to this gym.
I went along to try out the gym and couldn't leave until I'd signed a contract I never really wanted.I paid up front for the first month.
On returning home I got my mum to phone them to say I'd changed my mind and wouldn't be using their facilities.
They are still on my case hassling me for money despite the fact I'm a student with no way of paying
The male changing rooms are always dirty. The cleaners don't wash their hands after they clean the toilets. The staff do not wash their hands after using the toilet, including those working on the drinks bar.Very often there is no soap in the male showers. They always run out of paper roll to clean sweat off the machines. When machines break down they don't get repaired for ages.
Dw glasgow fort Speed lane!Told by managmet up to 5 can be in thisLane at a time ! Really !
I wouldn't advise joining them at all. Despite decent facilities, seems that they do not care about the customer whatsoever. On the day I joined, I was promised a call from one of their instructors to advise me whether I can use the gym at all, because of my injury, but didn't get one in two months until I requested to see someone in the flesh. After that, I was supposed to use my personal trainer session and once more, I was assured that a personal trainer would call me to arrange for a meeting - NEVER HAPPENED.
They drawn the line when I went on a 2 months suspension and was informed that that the term will last from the day I issue the form till the day I want to come back, but when I did come back I was advised that I would have to pay till the end of the month as I issued the form half way through the month and I should have used my membership for the month I have issued the form in!!!!
WHY WASN'T I TOLD THAT IN THE FIRST PLACE!!!!
That's why, STAY AWAY OF THEM
I had to come on to give everyone an update of this gym.
I am becoming more and more frustrated everytime I visit.
Over the last two years things have been on a very steady decline.
Basically my list of problems is ever increasing with each visit, with nothing being done to rectify anything.
In the last couple of years the sky tv was taken away, which led to the projector screen then being taken away. This screen was the only reason I could use the treadmill for more than 20 mins at a time without being deathly bored.
The next thing that has taken its toll on me is the fact that on many occasions the music being played in the gym is so quiet that I couldn't even tell you what song was actually on!
Apart from these niceties my biggest problem with this gym is how long machines are broken for before repair. Having a machine out of action for a month because of a broken cable is just not acceptable to paying customers.
Next on my list is how often one of the water machines are of no use, and even when they are both functioning, one of them is always providing warm water.
Recently they even decided to remove the wet bags from the shower area. Seriously, how much can this possibly save them compaired with the annoyance they are providing their paying members.
Since I'm on a roll here I might as well add about the dirtiness in the changing rooms and how creepy the supposed cleaner is.
Actually after reading this back, I'm gonna have to go cancel my membership tomorrow.
Such a shame, this gym has a massive potential, but obviously the management are too busy counting their pennies to worry about keeping their members.
DW fitness is one of the better value gyms and they do special offers for students and certain workplaces - so make sure you check whether you qualify for any of these. For the student membership, doing a part time course is enough to qualify for that rate. They also have special offers with no joining fees and have trial memberships where you can join for a few weeks and so what you think - keep your eyes open for these!
I've been a member a few times on and off. I've very rarely used the actual gym - I mainly use it for the classes and the swimming pool which are great. I have used a number of the gyms in a few different towns and always found them to be clean and consistent. Sometimes the swimming pool is warmer at one gym than at another.
If swimming is your thing, do check the times that they hold classes in the pool - there is usually a lane still open but it's like swimming in a very choppy sea when aqua aerobics is on. Also, if you like to swim in peace, check the times of the children's swimming lessons or you may be in for lot of noise! Many a time I have had the pool to myself though which is lovely.
The classes are very good - you need to book in advance for some of the most popular ones.
I've always found the staff to be very helpful - always looked after my cossie when I've left it behind in the changing room!
All in all I would recommend DW fitness.
Cold showers, 1 spa permanently out of order, the other always full. All for £38 a month
The Dundee Dw gym itself is ok. Probably the best in Dundee but for what I pay, I'm increasingly unhappy. The changing and shower rooms tend to be a little dirty and are far from luxuroius and spacious as advertised. The toilets are often smelly and the hand dryers never work properly. In the gym the equiptment is dirty and machines can lie broken for long periods. I recently asked one of the managers if someone could clean one of the treadmills as it was covered in sweat. He said it wasn't that bad and walked away. Someone did come to clean it up who I believe the manager had asked grudgingly. The gym is quite big with lots of different kinds of equiptment and good floor space for warm up/cool down and circuit and bodyweight exercises. The coffee bar are is good and the staff are all prety friendly. Overall, I think that DW can do more. A cleaner more up beat environmnet (music can be low), and new equipment - weights area is in need of attention. It's not quite critical but if they operate now they can maybe save it.
I joined the gym before it openend and was promised a lot for £33 a month which was reasonable .
On opening the gym area was first rate although ,with just being new, a little crowded at peak times .
The pool area is rather small but would cater for most . the hot tub is poor and the timer system is rather annoying . FX in Gateshead have by far the best pool area of all the gyms in the area! There is no clock in the pool area and no shelving in the shower area so no place to put my specs!
Things just need better thought out and some customer insight might have been a good idea !
My biggest issue with the gym is the closure of the coffee shop area. The gym shuts at 10pm but you better get your coffee or drink by 9.15pm to be safe.We AKED FOR COFFEE AND JUICE 30 minutes before closure time but were told sorry closed ? Now if this was their own business I think I would have been served . Not
only wll this cost the loss of coffee sales etc but will also cost members in the long run . I bet Dave W would have served me . Gym 5 stars, 2 stars max all other areas.
Just joined my nearest DW and had my first session in there this morning.
This gym (and so I assume the other gyms in the DW chain) are very up to date with a huge variety of state of the art equipment (such as power-plates), knowledgable staff and just generally has a very 'fit' and 'clean' atmosphere. Other facilities include a pool which isn't very big but perfectly fine for a relaxing post-workout swim, complete with jacuzzi and steam room. The changing room is very spacious and clean, with plenty of shower cubicles so you won't have to worry about queueing at peak times.
For those who need a bit of motivation or just want to try something a bit different, there are a good choice of classes (free for members) and their membership costs are very competitive. For example, I have an off-peak student membership which costs just £19.95, no joining fee. All new members are also entitled to an induction and a personalised plan.
I can't wait to go again tomorrow :)
Hi I have been a member at dw miltonkeynes since it opened in December 2009 although doing martial arts for 10 years this is the first gym I have joined and I am absolutely loving it. I do mainly classes but I do use the gym I have not lost much weight but my body shape and fitness levels are much improved.the gym itself is very clean all the staff are very helpful and always very cheery the pool isnt huge but never seems to be packed we do have a free carpark the only problem is when the football is on it can be a bit of a nightmare but apart from that I would defenitly recommend dw it's
Affordable ,clean, very friendly. The main thing is to enjoy your workout and at dw you certainly can so what are you waiting for people come and join it won't cost an arm and leg just hard work and sweat
DW Fitness Bury is the best value for money club I have ever been to.Friendly helpful staff. The trainers approach you during workouts to ask how you are progressing and will offer to book you in for another session. Also they don't mind spending a good two hours with you during that session providing that they have the time. The pool is beautifully lit and so is the steam room.
This gym is new to the Carlisle area and has some stiff competition in terms of both standards and prices. The local Bannatynes gym is the most luxurious around while the smaller leisure centre gyms only charge £30 per month so are hard to beat on price.
I currently have corporate membership and pay £33.50 per month. This includes peak access to all the gym and the swimming areas. The opening hours are really convenient- 06:30-22:00. I always go before work and the early opening means that I can get in and do a good workout before it's time to head to the office.
There is a decent length swimming pool, but unfortunately it is not very wide so 6 or so people will almost fill it and if one of those is a splasher...! However, if you pick quieter times of day you can often have the place to yourself. After a swim there is a lovely steam room, very spacious with twinkly lights in the ceiling and aromatherapy scents in the steam, very relaxing! There are also two Jacuzzis which are a nice way to end your visit.
There is a sunbed facility which is very reasonable at £1 for 2 minutes and can be used on a pay as you go basis. The sunbed is located in the changing rooms within a large cubicle so there's plenty of room to get dressed.
The staff are all very friendly and well -trained and there is always someone available to help you out if you need help with any machines.
Overall I think this gym is great value for money at around £8 a week for unlimited swimming and gym. I go every week day at the moment so to pay as you go at other gyms would be costing me around £100 a month!
DW Fitness Clubs were known as JJB gyms before but that has changed now. You can join up for a number of different deals from here including 27 pounds per month that is the package I am on.What do you get here? A massive swimming pool, huge gym, personal trainers, steam rooms and a hell lot more stuff inside this gym. You are provided with free parking outside the gym so their is no hassle coming here.
The cost is a little too much and inside they also sell products here for high prices looking to make money of us members of the gym.Being a member at the gym here I get to use all the different machines with no hassle at all here. There are so many options here of using different machines as they have many of the same one available here. The fitness club is open late till around 11 in my local.
Men and women are both treated right here and no sexual discrimination is allowed here at all.I have been so happy coming here to use the gym and has no problems at all with their service. The gym is already fantastic for using but I wish they reduced the prices a little bit!
Students can benefit from cheaper prices at the gym though as the prices for students are cut down here. This is the best gym I have been to so far in my life. I never have to wait to get on a machine here unlike other gyms!
Beautiful intimately lit swimming pools, fibre optic lit steam rooms, bubbling hot relaxing spas, large air-conditioned gyms with innovative cutting edge equipment, superb group exercise studios with classes at no extra charge...plus much much more.
