Advantages: Very good value for money, luxurious
Disadvantages: Have to sign up for 6 months, food expensive
I have been wanting to go to a gym for quite some time now but I have never had one that is very close to me and I have always seen them as too expensive.
When this new JJB gym opened up only about a mile from my house I was imediately interested but I still did not think I would actuly sign up, but after a look around i instantly new this was the place for me.
Gym membership is only £20 a month for students or OAP's and only £24 for anyone else which is atleast half what I have seen many other gym's, and inferior gym's charge.
The Gym generally has everything you would want from a gym, it has lots of running machines, skii walkers, diferent types of bikes, rowing machines, all sizes of free weights, exersise balls, air resistance machines, and thats without starting on all of the different weight machines.
I was really impressed by the quality of everything inside the gym. There are televisions in all of the bikes and even if you are no on a bike, you are never too far away from a television playing music videos, olympics, the news and if you don't like whats on you can just ask and one of the staff will change it for you. Even the changing rooms feel expensive with leatehr seats and wooden lockers and surround. But again all of this is cheap.
In addition to the gym itself there is also a swimming pool. Along side the swimming pool there are 2 jacusi's and a steam room. All of which are again high quality and very nice to use.
There are also extra classes that are provided free but I canno't comment because I havn't been to any, they mainly consist of aerobics and yoga which doesn't interest me, but the rooms which they are in are again very nice.
The two problems I have with the gym is firstly there are no sporting facilities such as table tennis tables, badminton courts and so on that can be found at some gyms but then again this is a gym and not a liesure centre so its not really to be expected (would just be nice). Also there is a very nice cafe where you can buy food and drinks, which although good is very very expensive with 2 slices of ordinary toast costing 70p and beans on toast costing £2 when it is only a tin of baked beans and 2 slices of bread.
Overall I think this gym is brilliant value for money and I would definately recommend it, there are alot of JJB gyms opening up aroudn the country all of this year so there is likely to be one near you (membership to one alows you membership to all aswel)
*just an extra point* - Although this gym is very cheap, you do have to sign up for a minimum period of 6 months but i would imagin this is the same as alot of gyms, there also may be a sign up fee but as I am a student I got this for free
Summary: A very good gym I definately recommend it to anyone

- 08/09/08 That's a good price. I pay £6 a month for the gym where I work but I have been a grand total of 0 times. I just don't have the energy with the 50 hour weeks I've been putting in lately :( |

- 08/09/08 My council run Gym is £28.00 a month and you have to sign up for a year, so this JJB doesn't sound too bad. Pity my nearest one is about 30 miles away. Anna |
