Newest Review: ... and wrap a pestemal (pronounced: peshtemal), a kind of towel, round my naked body, I put my things into a locker and then he led me to a room, opened the door and shoved me in telling me to go to the wash basins first and then lie down on the stone in the middle, five minutes on my back and five minutes on my belly. The hot, dry air took my breath away, later I learnt that there are 45°C in a Hamam (113°F), maybe not advisable for people with heart trouble. The room was octagonal, the walls covered with stone looking like marble, a low stone bench fixed to the walls, interrupted by six wash basins. I learnt later that I should have be... more

Crowned Review Other Spas: Healthy Hamam (1132 words)

The idea of going to a Hamam, a Turkish Bath, has always intrigued me. When I saw that the Hotel Barut Arum in Side on the South coast of Turkey, where my husband and I spent our hols in October, had a beauty spa on the premises, I decided to give it a go. The Viola Spa offers free use of the Hamam, everything else, applications and treatments, cost extra. I opted for the 'Reduced Autumn Offer', i.e., the Hamam, followed by peeling, a foam bath and a massage (35 Turkish Lira = ~14.45 GBP). A Hamam in a hotel may not be the real thing, not like one in central Anatolia but adapted to the tastes of guests from central Europe, but I assume that most tourists ...  Read the complete review

Having recently suffered from a bout of depression that left me feeling pretty rough, I decided to treat myself and my best friend to an afternoon being pampered at Newcastle's Malmaison. Their Petite Spa had just been refurbished, and so I decided this was the place to go. My friend flew up from London and we had lunch on Newcastle's Quay-Side, visited The Baltic Art Gallery, and headed over to Malmaison for our 5pm appointment. There are lots of treatments to choose from, ranging from Indian head Massages and manicure/pedicures through to full body massages and mud-wraps. We decided on the E'Spa Total Holistic Aromatherapy Body Care. What a great choice! ...  Read the complete review

Nothing beat’s a bit of pampering does it? I’d always wanted to try out one of those health Spa’s set in old country houses where all I’d have to do is don a fluffy white dressing gown and slippers whilst others pampered me. Yes I wanted to be smeared in mud and salty stuff, have my aches and pains pummelled away whist smelling relaxing fragrances. I wanted to be scrubbed and smeared in oils and find out what this dry brushing was all about. The perfect excuse came along to blow some hard earn’t cash with my birthday last January. I decided that I’d have the ultimate pampering day. Being the (dis) organised person I am my quest for the ultimate day started about a week ...  Read the complete review

Crowned Review Eden Hall... Bliss! (2655 words)

I spent most of yesterday relaxing in the tranquil surroundings of Eden Hall Day Spa in Nottinghamshire. Located 25 miles from the M1 Motorway, or 5 miles from Newark on the A46 Newark to Leicester road or 7 miles from the A1, on the outskirts of Elston, a small village, Eden Hall Spa is enclosed in what, from the outside, seems to be a large old stately home or mansion surrounded by countryside fields. Apparantly it actually used to be a maggot factory so I'm told, though don't let that put you off!! Arrival ************** The day spa opens at 8:30 each day. When making a booking for the day it seems that guests are asked whether they would ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Other Spas: INGLEWOOD HEALTH SPA (440 words)

My daughter was away the whole weekend at her Dads and I was having a really bad Friday at work, so during my afternoon fag break I booked one night at Inglewood in Kintbury, Nr Newbury. It was a moment of madness, even asking for my room to be upgraded! Could this hardworking single mum really justify spending £200 on herself? No, probably not, but what the hell- I was REALLY looking forward to it! I don't drive so I asked if there was any way I could get a taxi or a bus from the train station (knowing that Kintbury is a sleepy little village I didn't rate my chances of getting a taxi too high!) and was told by the lovley helpful receptionist that the porter ...  Read the complete review
