Advantages: beautiful setting, purpose built building, great healthy food
Disadvantages: expensive!
My trip to Springs Hydro was something I'd love to repeat if my finances were equal to the challenge! Set in the middle of the Leicestershire countryside it really has the most beautiful and relaxing surroundings. We had one of the downstairs rooms with floor to celieing windows which looked over the meadows to the river with moorhens wandering around outside and fantastic views of sunrise and sunset. The room was big, comfortable, nicely decorated, and had a jacuzzi! I wouldn't worry about going alone to Springs as it's a pretty sociable place. At meal times you will end up sitting with other people and every time we sat down to eat the conversation was good and the people interesting! The food itself was fantastic and it was difficult to believe that it was all low fat because it tasted so delicious, although the presence of yoghurt where cream would have been normally was a dead giveaway. Sunday lunch is a buffet and really one of the nicest meals I've had. We even came away feeling well fed! There are numerous classes and presentations and you're given a timetable for these when you arrive. Take your pick, you can do pretty much whatever you want from feng shui to water aerobics. The pool is beautiful and really a relaxing place to swim, or perhaps just float and enjoy the relaxing atmosphere. There are loads of different beauty treatments on offer and I had massages (I'm hooked!) and a facial. You can pretty much spend the whole day wandering around in a bathrobe not feeling even the slightest bit guilty :-) Springs is purpose built unlike a number of other spas and health farms, and this is most definitely a benefit. I've also been to Henlow Grange and found this in contrast to be a little tired-looking and showing its' age. Finally, if your partner needs some persuasion to join you - there *are* men who go (but not many when we were there) and there's a golf driving range in
the grounds. I think they were also considering adding the option of clay pigeon shooting. I'd go again and again if I could afford it (or manage to win it again!) If the funds are there and you want a treat - this is it. You'll come home relaxed and feeling like you've had a holiday even if you only go for a weekend!
