This is my sanctuary of relaxation and gorgeous smells! I give you permission to enjoy it with me! Zen is centrally located in Edinburgh, with most buses passing through the area - so it's nice and easy to get to. I usually have a half hour/hour aromatherapy massage @ £20/£25 and tend to come before a night out, looming stressful experience or just for the sheer pleasure of it! An aromatherapy massage starts of with the masseuse taking you to 'The Sanctuary' which is a beautiful blue treatment room filled with fairy lights and candle oil-burners. She then lets make your own choice from a selection of appropriate oils (depending on your mood) to create a unique blend, which will be used in your massage. You are then left in the room to undress and arrange yourself, with your bum covered!, on the massage table. The treatment does not involve hairdresser-like banter, as you are helped along with the deep breathing of the exotic scents, are relaxed as the treatment begins and are encouraged to fall asleep if you wish to! The massage is gentle but really loosens up any knots and leaves you feeling refreshed and, depending on your chosen oil blend, floppy, sparky, spanky, happy, confident, quiet, but always balanced. The final touch at the end of the massage is the laying on of hot towels, to help the skin absorb the oils' goodness, this feels sooo comforting and brings you back to the planet after your journey of bliss. You are left to change in your own time and advised to drink some of the cucumber and mint water they leave out for you, as you can become very dehydrated because of the oils. Cucumber and mint water!-what a lovely touch. The whole concept at Zen is for the customer to heighten their inner and outer self-awareness , without feeling like a total hippy wierdo, through massage, reflexology, ayurveda and lifestyle advice. If all this sounds a bit too muc
h like hard work you can lie back and be pampered by the wonderful staff, without even thinking about anything at all. This is my relaxation technique! For the more frivilous (and rich) among us, there is the option of buying a day's pampering, which includes massage, facial, manicure/pedicure and organic meals etc, starting at about £70. A range of beauty treatments are also available @£6 + including waxing, body masks, manicures, facials and make-up. A great range of Aveda products are on sale there, but not even mentioned to you unless you ask - unlike many other money-grabbing salons i could mention! The staff are amazing, the decor is ultra chic and the treatments are out of this world! - Zen - yes. Why aren't you there yet? Why not take a virtual tour of 'The Sanctuary'? @ http://www.zen-lifestyle.com ************UPDATE************** If you happen to have this year's SNAP-FAX then you can get 25% off your first treatment and 15% off thereafter. This is only available 9-12 Mon-Thur but if you can get there, makes it much less expensive. You don't have to be a student to use SNAPFAX and it can be bought from several shops in Edinburgh.
