Infinity Reference 81 MK 2 ... speakers were a sadly short-lived bid by Infinity Systems to make money from a high-end, no frills, stereo speaker. Infinity decided to use the best quality components in an ordinary-looking cabinet to produce professional results at consumer prices. The sensitivity is first rate and the speakers are beautifully neutral. I had the chance to get to know them over a period of six months when I was working in a recording studio in California. The engineers were amazed that sound of this quality could be had for so little money given that they were made in tiny volume in Denmark. JBL Control 1 Xtreme Speakers ... although most people have probably not heard of them they are one of the top speaker manufacturers in the world. They are mainly involved in manufacturing speakers for concert venues and cinemas, next time you visit your local multiplex and the lights are on have a look at the speakers and most likely they are JBL. The control 1 is from the professional series of speaker and I believe is still available today. They are marketed as compact monitors and are quite heavily used in small environments such as bars and small theatres etc, as for their size they produce an excellent sound. Bose Acoustimass 5 ... have two systems. One is my serious listening and hobby system based on B&W 602.2's, and the other is in the living room for TV sound enhancement for movies, easy listening, background music for dinners or cocktail parties. Why were the AM-5's selected? Because they are "virtually invisible" (a Bose claim). Most people don't even realize there is a sound system in the living room. And because the sound really isn't that bad. Mine are AM-5 Series II's. Set up: They are driven by a 100 W/ch Sony STR-135 and a Sony CDP-XE500 for music, and there are feeds from the TV system.
