----------------------------- Introduction ----------------------------- Although i don't remember when i bought this as i was still in school at that point this speaker system is of a quality that i did not expect from something that only cost me around £20-£30. i use this with my computer which is good because i do not own anything to convert tv sound into the correct sources. using RCA to 3.5mm jack cables allows me to easily plug this into my computer, although i do not have the correct colour ports on my motherboard because it does have jack sensing this does not matter. This also offers my piece of mind that i can change the location that the different speakers are in and just use the sound manager on my computer to change which speakers do what function. I am currently only using 3 of the speakers that come with this as one of the cables broke of one of the speakers when i was moving rooms and the other speaker is one its way out as the sound quality from it has dropped. But i am happy with using the 3 speakers and the sub woofer because the 3rd speaker i used for voices in games and movies which makes them much clearer. I bought these because i was originally looking for a surround sound system to use with my computer and i must say these have done their job excellently and i would quite happily replace it when it eventually breaks with a new set. although i believe i would first try and get the individual speakers and sub woofer if that was cheaper. although for the price i would be most likely to just buy the whole set again. ------------------------- Specification ------------------------- Total Power Output: 40 watts (RMS) Sub woofer power output: 15 watts speakers: 5x 5 watts Frequency response: Sub woofer: 20Hz- 170Hz speakers 120Hz- 20kHz Dimensions - Subwoofer - 150 x 200 x 225mm Speakers - 85 x 134 x 70mm Weight: 4.5 kgs -------------------------- Details -------------------------- The rear of the sub woofer has a power on switch, which if you are going to have these in your bedroom then i would recommend that you switch them off at night as when on without a sound source they emit a humming noise. It also has a volume control which is also the button used for standby which you press in for that function, there is also a bass control which means that when you want to feel more vibrations from games you can. I find myself using this for Mass Effect 3 which makes Purgatory feel more real because you get the same thumping as you would in a real club. If you are planning on clipping these onto walls then you can use a screw driver to remove the base from the speakers which gives you much more room to work with. This is because the stand sticks out of the back of the speaker and removing it allows you to fit it flush to the wall if you so wish. although the set that i bought did not contain any clips for wall mounting these speakers you can use screws which if you are going to use screws i would recommend using a piece of wood to attach the speakers to which can be fitted in a corner of a room. This allows the speakers to be angled around 45 degrees from the wall which allows the rear speaker sound in my opinion to have a deeper effect. The speakers will stand up straight without the stands attached which is useful because on 2 of my speakers the stands came off. i find the center speaker because it is too high when stood up in the center of the TV because it blocks part of the screen i can have it laid on its side, this still has the speaker work as it should. This will really only be a problem for you if your TV is lower if it is wall mounted or the speakers are on a lower shelf then this should not be a problem. If like me you are going to use these with a computer for gaming and you will be likely to be closer to the speakers then i would recommend tilting the speakers towards the center speaker because this helps to add depth to the sound and can help to confine where the sound is going to go. I believe there is a troubleshooting guide included along with the manual although i have not needed to use this so my memory on it is not as good but the other reviews that i have read also mention this so this should mean that it is included with this product. Because it is an asda product you can also use their customer helpline to help troubleshoot problems. with this product you get a 28 day returns policy and a 1 year warranty for if it stops working. I do not believe that if you buy this that it will go wrong, as mine has not after 3-5 years because the wattage of the individual speakers is listed this means that you can also source replacement speakers at the correct wattage although i have not tried this myself i am not sure if this will work.
It's no secret that I'm a fan of cheaper supermarket own brands, especially ASDA who seem to keep the quality of their products as high as the top end names, including this one which I currently have installed in the bedroom. There are five mini speakers and one main speaker to this device, the main speaker is more or less just for the bass sound and I find it only works well if you keep one of the smaller speakers quite close to it, as for the other four they come with long wires and small clips to attach them to the wall. The best layout is to have them around the room, preferably towards the ceiling, in order to get the complete surround sound effect that comes from a cinema. When in use with a TV (especially a big HD one!) these speakers really help make a great in cinema experience from home. However they can also be attached quite easily to a computer, all you need is a scar to 3mm jack converter which can be pretty easily picked up. I am currently using it with a computer I find that when listening to music and shows from iTunes the experience is excellent. Overall these are great speakers, more suited to smaller rooms or office settings than the actual family living space. They create a great cinema like environment and I whole heartedly suggest that you use these speakers rather than paying a ridiculous amount for higher priced brands.
Having bought a new 37" TV recently, I was looking to buy a set of speakers to go with it. Although I was very happy with my new TV, the sound which comes from the TV speakers, although decent enough, can be much improved by purchasing a home cinema system. I was doing some shopping in Asda when I noticed they sold home cinema systems and seeing this set available priced at only £18, I was intrigued. I think when I noticed and purchased this home cinema system a few weeks ago it must have been on offer as the price is now £25. However, having bought this home cinema system, I believe £25 is still a fantastic price to pay and well worth the money. I was very sceptical about actually buying the speakers as I thought at that price they maybe wouldn't be very good at all, but while I was standing looking at them on the shelf, a staff member who was nearby spoke to me and told me he thought they were really good considering the price, and had some himself. Well that was all I needed to convince me to take a chance and buy some, and I also thought that if they were rubbish I could always return them as Asda are really good about refunds. The home cinema system contains a subwoofer, 5 x satellite speakers, audio input cable and remote control, all in a silver-grey colour. Also included in the box is a small instruction booklet which contains diagrams and connection instructions. Specification :- Power Output - 40W (RMS) Subwoofer - 15W, Satellites 5W Frequency Response - Subwoofer - 20Hz ~ 170Hz Satellites - 120Hz ~ 20 kHz Dimensions - Subwoofer - 150 x 200 x 225mm Satellites - 85 x 134 x 70mm Weight - 4.5kgs These are just the basic specifications. Full details are included in the instruction booklet. Having decided where to place the speakers, (you are given diagrams showing you the ideal location for them) the only niggle I had is that the cables for the two rear speakers could do with being a little longer. If your room is small then you will be fine, but I must admit we did struggle a little with one of the rear speakers. A quick shuffle of the furniture though and we managed to get the speakers into place. We then set about connecting them to our DVD player from the subwoofer which was fairly easy as the jack plugs are colour co-ordinated. Located on the rear of the subwoofer is a power on button and also a volume dial for the subwoofer, but it is far easier to use the remote control supplied. The remote control features a on/standby button, bass + and bass - buttons and volume + and volume - buttons. It is very straightforward, easy to use and yes batteries are supplied! The sound quality it provides is far suprerior to what I expected to be honest. The sub-woofer provides a rich deep bass which does not distort and you can adjust to the level you prefer. Listening to music or watching a music DVD, the sound quality is fantastic. The sound coming from the satellite speakers is clear and provides a great surround sound to fill your room. There is a handy troubleshooting guide provided in the instruction booklet to refer to if you have any problems such as no sound coming from one or more of the speakers. Thankfully we didn't and haven't had any problems, but it is good to know that Asda also provide a customer helpline number, should you have any problems that are not solved after following the troubleshooting guide. The home cinema system comes with a 28 day no quibble guarantee if you are not happy with it for any reason, you can return it for a refund. Also provided is a year's guarantee whereby if you do experience any problems you ring the helpline, they give you a reference number, then you simply return to your Asda store for a full refund, so you can purchase this system with complete peace of mind. For such a small price you are getting a great sound and I remain very impressed. I can highly recommend this product and for ease of use, sound quality, price and guarantee you really would be hard pushed to find a better bargain! The SA51AR 5.1 Powered Home Cinema System can be purchased at Asda stores and also is available from Asda online with a standard delivery charge of £4.95.
