I received my Black Bose 301 V series as a Christmas gift 3 years ago now. At first, I was debating weather to ask for the Bose 301 bookshelf speakers or a pair of Cerwin Vega Bookshelf Speakers. After reading some reviews, I decided to ask for a pair of Bose 301 (Even though they were more expensive than the Cerwin Vega Bookshelf speakers) I am glad I chose the Bose 301 Bookshelf speakers! They are the clearest sounding, deepest bass speaker that I have ever owned and heard! The Bose 301 are rated from 10 W to 150 W at 4 or 8 Ohms. The Bose 301 Bookshelf speakers also come with a five year warranty directly from Bose.
The Bose 301 Bookshelf speakers feature one 2" rear-firring tweeter which "propels" sound waves from the back as well as the side of the speaker. One 8" Long-excursion Woofer which moves sound waves like no other speaker. Finally, the 2" Stereo targeting tweeters are precisely angled which gives you lifelike spaciousness throughout the listening area! Thankfully, Bose has included an Automatic Circuitry Protection which prevents the speakers (Drivers) from being "overdriven" The Direct reflecting speakers create a lifelike concert spaciousness. The Bose 301 V Series can be ordered in either a light cherry or black wood grain high quality finish. The Front cover on the Bose 301 Bookshelf Speakers can be taken off if you happen to want to know how much your 8" Woofer is moving the sound waves (which is quite amusing to watch)
Put Threw a "Real Test"
I have tested my Bose 301 V series on the following types of music : Classic Rock, Rock, Jazz, heavy Metal and Rap. Out of all the genres I have tested, the Bose 301 have performed extremely well! Bose does not "rate" the frequency range of their products. I was able to put the Bose 301 V series threw as low as 20 Hz and up to 21 KHz without having them break a sweat! I played some Rock and Roll at 0db on my Onkyo Stereo Receiver for 10 minutes straight. Threw out the test, I had the protective mesh off in order to see how much the 8" Woofer was moving. The 8" Woofer sure got its exercise of the day during my test! The Bose 301 performed extremely well during my test. I would not play some Rap at 0db during long periods of time (even though the Bose 301 would probably take it). I believe that playing hard core music like Rap for a long period of time may have a long term effect on my Bose 301 Bookshelf speakers which I don't want since they sound really good just the way they are!
The Bose 301 or The Bose 201?
For the extra amount of money, I Highly recommend purchasing the Bose 301 over the Bose 201. Put threw the same test, the Bose 201 simply can't compete with the Bose 301 for imaging and clarity. The Bose 201 have a 6" Woofer instead of a 8" (resulting in Less dept of bass and clarity). The Bose 201 have one 2" Tweeter like the 301 but they do not have one rear-firring tweeter which is noticeable especially when listening to a musical concert! The Bose 301 Bookshelf Speakers create a "lifelike" sound that the Bose 201 just can't produce.

The Bose 301 V series are the BEST sounding bookshelf speakers that I have ever heard and owned! Being a "Audiophile", The Bose 301 have met and exceeded my critics and I recommend them to all other Audiophiles or other consumers wanting a very good sounding speaker for relatively inexpensive. The Bose 301 V Series project the sound throughout a room nicely and evenly and pump spectacular amounts of bass! If you are looking to buy the Bose 301 V series Bookshelf speakers to play Rap at unbearable amounts of volume everyday, I would not recommend these Bookshelf speakers to you. Even though they probably will take the abuse, it will be hard on the voice coil and you might find yourself with a broken or distorted speaker one day. If you are looking for speakers to expand your surround sound system or to play music at bearable volumes, I would highly recommend the Bose 301 V series to you!
I bought these speakers knowing that if they're from Bose, they would delivery high quality sound. I use them just to play music in my den, but they have the potential of being used for seminars and theatrical events as well. I listen to music with a lot of bass, and these speakers are the only one's I've found that can withstand heavy bass without blowing out, vibrating too much, or distorting the sound quality in any way. They sound like studio speakers and I would recommend them to anyone looking for speakers that will play music loud without wanting to sacrifice sound quality. My only suggestion is buying a nice receiver, or you wont get the full potential of these speakers. Bose makes a receiver that compliments these speakers well, and they will be exactly what you're looking for whether you listen to slow, melodic songs, or fast songs with a lot of bass and pitch change. Not to mention that have a very sleek look that fits well with most decors.
We bought these Bose 301 V speakers to replace much loved 30 year old hand built speakers. We were looking for a smallish wall mountable pair for our new kitchen which would cope with a range of sounds and look stylish yet unobtrusive. Knowing that Bose has a good reputation we were nevertheless nervous at spending for us, alot of money. However, two minutes of listening to George Benson in the retailers, through these speakers, put our minds at rest. wow! There is a real richness of sound, from the deep warm base, perfect for our soul, funk , jazz and blues collection, to the crystal clear tones we get when listening to classical and pop. The purity in the sound of Miles Davis's trumpet playing in Kind of Blue is awesome...he could almost be in the room! The sound is evenly distributed around our 18ft by 14 ft kitchen but i'm sure even better in a larger space especially if you can notch up the volume! We thoroughly recommend these speakers, and in black, they look cool too!
Bose speakers have always been extraordinary. Its loud vibration and hearth-pounding rhythm makes every audio enthusiast craving. You can't help or think but be amazed when you hear it.
BoseTM sound quality has always been superb. I've always been amazed at its crystal and crisp sound. I bought mine from ebay a few months back and had never regret. Actually, I already have the Series IV (black one) way back then. Since my brother was always at my neck with my sounds and that he wants one for himself as well, so turned out to have a new series. And off my Series IV goes.
Sound Quality: perfect (specially for reggae beats)
Size: fits well with shelves
Bose 301 Series 5 is a hit. Try to visit some of their stores on factory outlets perhaps and hear the sound of music. You wouldn't regret plugging it in and experiencing music like never before.
