Advantages: Price
Disadvantages: speaker wire
**This is a great system, but I must note that my unit just blew out on me. I was sitting down with my radio hooked up to it, and all of a sudden it shorted out. I went to look at it, and I saw a little puff of smoke coming out. Something apparently burned out inside and now my unit is broken. I've had this for less than three months. I'm hoping this was just a flaw in my specific unit.
I recently purchased this item on Ebay because I was looking for a cheap surround sound system that would hook up to my computer, and this one met my expectations.
I'm not a huge sound person, so I really wasn't looking for a high end item. All I wanted was two front speakers, two back speakers, and a subwoofer to increase the bass and realism of watching my baseball games. This item does that in an average fashion.
The features of this system are limited. It does not have any equalizer function as I have seen on other systems, so you can't switch to certain presets that accentuate certain noises and bass amounts.
Also, the wires for the rear speakers weren't all that long. To plug into the subwoofer, the wires use A/V adapters to plug in, not the traditional speaker wire that most systems use. This limits you in your effort to increase the length of the cable. In order to do this, you have to buy a/v extenders, where you plug in the male part of the speaker cable to a female adapter cable and then plug the adapter cable into the subwoofer. Downside to this, it is more expensive than speaker wire.
The sound quality is very clean and crisp. The speakers and subwoofer can achieve volumes louder than what you would need while still keeping its sound integrity. I love to listen to classical and jazz music on the system, and it has such a good sound that I feel like I'm in a concert.
The unit comes with a remote that comes in handy. On the remote you can switch from 5.1ch to stereo sound, increase the volume of each section individually (front, center, read, and the subwoofer), and of course turn it on or off. I use this when I sit on my couch and adjust the speakers so that they are equally loud and give me the surround effect.
Overall I was very happy with my purchase. There really is nothing like surround sound, and I'm not sure how I lived without it. I payed somewhere around 40 pounds for it, and it was an excellent investment!
Summary: I suggest it.
