Novel design and works reasonably well
Member Name: smitchell
Advantages: Unusual design, works well as a wireless speaker.
Disadvantages: Tinny sound, poor FM reception.
I received the iDuck as a Christmas present and have used it several times.
It comes in two parts: a white egg-shaped transmitter and the duck-shaped speaker. A line cable is also included - the name iDuck is deceptive as it will connect to any device with a 3.5mm headphone jack. Build quality feels fairly solid, and the speaker does float as advertised (I was a little apprehensive at first, but so far the battery compartment has stayed watertight).
Both the transmitter and speaker run off AAA batteries. Installing these is a bit of a pain as both battery compartments are screwed shut, but it is necessary to keep the speaker watertight. The transmitter also has a DC power socket, but for obvious reasons a mains transformer isn't included. So far, I've used the transmitter and speaker for about 4 hours on-and-off and both sets of batteries are going strong.
Using the product as a wireless speaker is straightforward. Connect an audio source to the transmitter and switch it on, push the switch on the speaker to the 'Audio' setting and press the Scan button. Audio is clear although a little tinny - it's adequate for listening to speech (in my case talking books and streaming radio) but not much good for music. It's also mono.
The FM radio is a big let-down. The lack of a decent aerial makes picking up anything difficult, and when it does pick up a station it has a nasty habit of dropping the signal and tuning to the next available station after a few minutes. There are only two volume settings, loud and very loud. This is fine when using the unit as a wireless speaker as you can alter the volume of the source, but it becomes a problem when listening to the radio.
Summary: A bit of a gimmick, but works well as a wireless speaker if you mainly listen to speech.
