I've owned these Intempo speakers for nearly four years now and use them almost daily. The model I have is the basic IDS-01 in white, for which I paid about £18 on Amazon, which was a great bargain and excellent value for money. A quick Amazon search shows that this basic model has been surpassed by more expensive versions in different colours for anything up to £55. There are some models available from other Amazon sellers for closer to £30-£35, which I would recommend as a more reasonable price for the unit.
Firstly, I have to say that the design of these speakers is great. The glossy black or white finish is the perfect compliment to your iPod. The unit gives excellent sound quality and good volume output, its not at all what you would expect for the size, but rather an adequate alternative to my bulky old hi-fi. These speakers are extremely lightweight and take up very little space. In fact, when I bought them, I remember them being billed as travel speakers, which gives an idea of how portable and convenient the speaker set is. However, I have never used them as travel speakers - this is because, while the speakers are lightweight, the mains adaptor is large and surprisingly heavy, which I think makes them unsuitable for popping into your luggage. I have only ever used these as an alternative to a home hi-fi.
The speaker unit is easily connected to the iPod through the port on the bottom. Mine does not have a remote control (though I see there are other models on Amazon that do include a remote), and selecting tracks is done using the iPod controls. Volume, however, is not selected using the iPod, but with fixed buttons on the speaker unit base. These touch-sensitive buttons have to be repeatedly 'stroked', rather than pressed, which I didn't realise when I first purchased the unit, and which took some getting used to.
The speaker also has a stereo jack on the back, so it can be used with other audio devices - I've plugged mine into my laptop previously to compensate for the abysmal PC speakers.
Finally, the unit can also be used to charge your iPod. For this, it doesn't need to be switched on at the speaker switch, but does need to be connected to and switched on at the mains. I don't just use the speakers for play back - I keep my iPod in here all the time, so I always know where to find it, and never forget to charge it.
To recap, this is a great alternative to a full hi-fi, that won't cost much or take up much room - get it at a bargain pric and it will exceed your expectations.
==Intempo Digital ipod docking Station/Speakers==
I have not long had an actual ipod as at first I purchased an MP3 player made by Sony but since having the real McCoy, I have been using it far more especially since I have had this docking station/speaker system for in the kitchen.
The Intempo Speakers system is available in many places on line and ranges from around £10 for second hand ones to £49.99 pence for brand new. I was lucky enough to pick up a brand new set for around the £25 region which I felt was a fair deal.
The ones I have are a white colour which I especially wanted as my ipod is white and I felt any other colour would have looked odd. There are a ton of colours to choose from in this product, you can get bright pink, blue, green, silver or black which I guess have all been made to match the colour of your ipod.
The speakers not only play your music, but will also charge your ipod at the same time and state that they fit most types of ipods so my classic large ipod of 30 GB fits in the item perfectly and does look rather neat and tidy.
The Intempto speakers/docking station is a good sized item which doesn't take up too much space and is perfect for the kitchen, bedroom or even taking away on holiday with you (which I plan to do in September!). They stand at around 10 cm high and are roughly 30 cm in length.
I can't say this review is going to be too technical as I am not overly in touch with all things tecky! However, I do know that these speakers are 6 watts each and this means that they are not overly powerful but are perfect for what I need and still give out a loud and clear sound.
The look of the speakers is good although I feel with them being white and positioned in the kitchen, they tend to pick up the dust and dirt rather easily and I am forever wiping them over with a wet cloth to keep them looking nice.
The volume buttons are positioned either side of where the ipod would sit and these are touch sensitive buttons so that you don't really need to push the button to activate make the speakers produce a louder sound, just lightly touch them. The right side of the ipod has the button to increase the volume and the button on the left side is the one to decrease the volume.
The speakers/docking station is powered by a mains adaptor which is a rather large black plug that slots into the hole right at the back of the system. The back of the speakers also has the power button which has a little blue LED light that comes on when the speakers are turned on. There is also a socket on the back which allows the docking station/speakers to be attached to a computer by having a USB port.
There really is not much else to say about these incredibly small speakers other than I feel I got a good purchase when getting them as they are just what I needed. I am even considering getting another set for the bedroom so I can move my ipod around with me without too much bother.
I can't say they would be suitable for everyone as the volume doesn't get excessively high and when I move from the kitchen to other rooms in my flat the music is not really that clear. However I mainly listen to my music of an evening when I am making dinner and I don't want to disturb the little man in bed too much so these do give out a clear sound which has enough base to fill the kitchen with good sounds but that do not leak into other rooms.
I think for my own personal use these are great speakers which do the job I need them to so for that reason alone they get a top score from me of 5 out of 5 stars and a high recommendation.
I do hope that this has been of some help/interest to you.
Many thanks for taking the time to read.
For Forty quid, you can't go wrong. It is cheap and cheerful and will cater for your needs. As said in the description just about every type of ipod can be docked and played through the system. The system itself is light weight, and fairly small and is capable of shelling out some serious noise. The downside is, as the volume increases, the sound quality inevitably decreases, which is the only problem with the product. Also when the volume increases I found the speakers struggle with songs with lots of bass. The speakers have run from the mains or can run off 4 or so AA batteries. It is perfect for outdoor activities such as BBQ's etc etc. For the price, I don't know if you could get anything better, so therefore I would say for the price, this unit may be considered best value for money. I think as speakers for the outdoors, this is what the product is best suited.
This is a good piece of equiptment for the cost of it. It fits all makes of Ipod and to make sure your ipod stays in securely you also get little bits that clip in and out of the speakers to make make the area the ipod fits in bigger or smaller. I dont know if the Iphone would fit in here as i bought the speakers before the Iphone was released. It also has a headphone wire so you are able to connect it to any device with has a headphone plug, e.g. another type of mp3 player, or a laptop or computer. Its also mains powered so you dont have to worry about the cost of batteries. The sound quality is very good and remains good even when on the higher volume settings. I found the get the best sound quality you need to set the ipod on about half volume then use the speakers volume setting to crank it up. The speakers are powerful for enough an average size room, if you want something you can hear in every room on the floor then i would suggest going for something more powerful. The speakers also act as an ipod charger so again you dont need to worry about the battery like of your ipod. The speakers also come in several colours you can get one to match whichever colour ipod you have. If you dont want to spend a lot but want something that is good quality then these would be the speakers to go for.
I didn't want to spend a fortune when I was looking to buy a docking station, I just wanted a cheap but fairly good quality make, and with this one, you get it.
What makes this a good make was that it works either one of two ways. Plugged in, or powered wireless by batteries, which makes this very versatile. When it is plugged in, it charges your Ipod as you listen to your music, as well as looking sleek and stylish in most places. When it is unplugged with batteries, it is light and portable, although it doesn't charge your Ipod when it isn't plugged into the mains.
When I first used it, you couldn't tell that it wasn't one of the expensive big name brands docking station, the sound was quality and spotless, so it is well worth the little amount you pay for this. Also, for under £20, this can make a great present for someone, as well as just being a treat for you.
Considering you don't pay massive amounts, I wasn't surprised when I didn't get a remote control in the package, but I believe they are including these now (I bought mine a while back) as well as now being available in pink.
Actually using the product couldn't be easier, you plug it in, put your Ipod in, and click play on your Ipod... it couldn't be simpler. So overall it is worth the money, and mine has lasted ages, so you also get your wear out of it.
I wanted to find a cheap & good speaker for my iPod so I bought this after reading a lot of good reviews. I got this at around £18 so I was quite happy. It came in quite a big box, the speaker itself is quite portable, its dimensions are about 23X12 cm and it can be used by batteries.
The design is quite nice, it looks modern & simple, and it comes in different colors, I bought the black one cause it was the cheapest and it would be cleaner. The unit is solid and it's quite heavier than I had expected
For a small speaker at such price, the sound is excellent. Of course you wouldn't expect it to be sth extraordinary that would produce super high-quality sound. The sound is clear, and loud enough for a medium room to enjoy. I have bought it for 1 year, it still works fine so I'm very satisfied with it. I used to own a Sony Vaio CR laptop, the speaker of which gave very small sound, so I plucked this speaker in and enjoyed my movies.
The clarity is very, very good, and although the bass end is obviously not the beefiest (compared to a proper hifi unit) it does deliver a good punch, and the bass is still very evident, and retains very good solidity.
The volume controls are very easy to use, you simply tap on them repeatedly to gradually change the level up or down. There are no problems even if you play it at the higgest volume, and setting low volume doesn't affect its sound quality. And the bass end is good for such a cheap speaker.
It currently retails at £19.99 on Amazon, free shipping. So if you are looking for a portable speaker which is great value for money, this is perfect! Suitable for home using and small parties as well.
This machine is intended primarily for use with an iPod or similar device so that the music can be heard without headphones. For such a small unit the sound is impressive - certainly not tinny, which has been my experience with other units intended to perform the same function. Obviously it won't be up to the standard of a hi-fi system, but within a room it gives a very acceptable sound, and the volume can be increased to a good level without distortion.
The iPod slips onto the unit without any difficulty (and the machine charges the iPod while it's on). The machine comes with a remote control which is reasonably straightforward to use if you are just skipping through an album or adjusting the volume, though if you are using it to choose tracks, you have to stand so close to the iPod in order to read what the tracks are that there isn't much point in using the remote!
It looks slick, has a long lead and is a very fair price (at least at Amazon - I bought it in an Asda supermarket and paid quite a bit more than Amazon are asking).
