Fun portable speaker for all mp3 players

The iStuff Companion speakers are a great addition to any music lover's collection. Practical and affordable, these speakers give you 800mw of sound for under £10.

They work straight out of the packaging, coming with a handy carry case as well. They are about the size of an iPod touch so you can easily carry them around wherever you go. The excellent design of folding out utilizes two speakers in one device. Another great feature is how the 3.5mm cable is wrapped onto the speaker, keeping it clean and tidy. However this cable is only about 15cm long which is a drawback but doesn't hinder the machine that much

For the price the plastic feels nice and weighty, not cheap as you might expect as if it will break in your palm.
It comes two colours - either black or white. I tested it with an iPod touch 2nd generation, which has a pretty quiet and poor speaker. Once I inserted this the sound was much clearer and crisper, providing some bass as well. For mp3 players without speakers this is the first device I would use. It's as loud as mobile phones but in my opinion provides a better listening experience. Do not expect to be blown away by the noise as the price may suggest, it will not really fill a room with blasting music but does its job

Another aspect of this speaker is that it doesn't need any batteries whatsoever. It runs off the device it plugs into. This made using it very easy and convenient.

Overall, I think its perfect for taking out and about as well as on holiday. For casual listening on a beach or in the car, this speaker fulfills its price tag admirably.

      see above

When going on holiday it is always nice to be able to listen to music. This was always easy to do as you could put your earphones in and listen away to your ipod or walkman, but there are times when it is good to share. I was going on a ski holiday with some friends and thought rather than be very antisocial and sit listening to my ipod, unable to participate in any ongoing conversations, it would be good to have some background music to the chatting. I thought it was high time that I bought some travel speakers.

I had a search around various websites, read a good few reviews. I did not want to spen a lot of money, having just shelled out a fair bit for my ipod, as I was still a poor student at the time! So I found these speakers on iworld for £9.99. (I see now that you can pick these up for £4.99 on amazon). While on iworld I also bought a protective case for my ipod and the two combined meant that I got free p & p.

Anyway, the speakers themsevles are very compact, which I suppose is important for travel speakers, as they do not take up a lot of room. They are a little bit longer than an ipod (the standard 30 gb 5th generation one that I have), about the same width and maybe three to four times the depth, so a little chunkier. They come in a little leather case and they are folded in two. So when listening to them they open up and double in size.

There is a small cord that you plug into where the earplugs would go in your ipod to connect the speakers. The cord is hidden discreetly along the top of the speakers when not in use.

I can only give one mark for features, but only because they really are none - these are travel speakers and that is all! No other unnecessary bits and pieces.

Reliabaility and ease of use get full marks, kind of for the same reason as above - these are travel speakers and do not have any other functions that may distract the user. You simply take the cord plug it into your music player and the sound should come out! For the reliability I have never had a problem with these and I have owned them for at least 4 years now.

The sound quality is where these fall down, but only a little bit. And to be honest if you are only spending £4.99 on them, I did not exepect some fantastic sound. But they are definitely passable and the sound is sharp and clear, not tinny or full of interference. According to their website they give 800 mW of sound from their dual 50mm speakers.

You do not need any batteries, as these run off the power of your ipod. These speakers are compatible with all ipods and other music players with a 3.5mm headphone jack.

Overall I would highly recommend these for cheap travel speakers that do not take up too much room and provide a good sound.
