Ok where to start, My dad got these speakers quite cheap a while back and since then they have done nothing. My mum thought they were to loud for the kitchen so they sat in a box until I found them! I was looking for a pair of speakers to go with the turntables and mixing desk I had just got cheap on ebay but I didn't want to spend anything on a pair. My dad took these out of the garage so I looked them up on the internet. I couldn't find them on the JBL site but after searching I found that they were on the JBL pro website and these were actually professional studio monitors. I have just bought the JBL Control 1 Pro speakers, the 2006 model. The Pro series of the Control 1 is an uprated version of the consumer Extreme model and has slightly better specifications, such as a higher power handling capacity of 150 WATTs (75 W per speaker). The newer versions of the Pro has the same characteristics, albeit slightly improved decibel handling from 87 to 89 db, and comes packaged with the wall mountings. Mine arrived without these but at a much discounted rate but I want to situate them on my bookshelves, so are worth shopping around for. The sound is excellent, there is little to no distortion even at fairly high levels ...

JBL although most people have probably not heard of them they are one of the top speaker manufacturers in the world. They are mainly involved in manufacturing speakers for concert venues and cinemas, next time you visit your local multiplex and the lights are on have a look at the speakers and most likely they are JBL. The control 1 is from the professional series of speaker and I believe is still available today. They are marketed as compact monitors and are quite heavily used in small environments such as bars and small theatres etc, as for their size they produce an excellent sound.
