Advantages: Quality at a Cheap Price, Well Engineered, Would Suit Any System

Disadvantages: Slightly Weak with Some Bassy Songs

These Mission 702's of mine really can handle everything I seem to through at them. I was really surprised by little they cost in comparison to the amazing performance. When I bought them they where £180 but I expect they have gone done in price now, lucky you if you buy a pair for less.

The 702's are available in black ash and have a 25mm soft-dome tweeter placed centrally below a 180mm sub. The profiled glass composite sub-woofer looks really funky with its white cone and black centre and overall the style of mission's would suit any room. The curves on the front corners make that actual speakers feel a part of the box they stand in and are a smooth bit of styling. The facia has an eye-pleasing leather effect and the mission sign gleams proudly in the light. They stand 520mm high and 255mm wide and are a reassuring depth of 370mm, which suggests a good inside box design and a powerful magnet on the sub. In fact, if you look inside the air intake hole you can just about make out the curves of the wood inside, which can only be a good thing and while you’re there don’t forget to have a sniff, fantastic, the smell of cut wood! Height wise, they suit 500 mm stands best as the speaker cone level comes up to a nice height when sitting in your average chair. The 702's are not biwirable but for the price, I don’t think you can expect this.

As far as I can hear they seem to sound best in a medium size room (around 6m by 6m) as they produce good but not too boomy bass. I’ve tried them in small (almost cubby hole) sized rooms and the bass just drowns the treble and in lager (10m) rooms they loose some of their clarity and don’t give the same impact that a more expensive pair of speakers might bring. After some testing I have sat mine in a room 7m by 4.5m in size and about half a metre away from any walls so that they can breathe without being too exposed.

With the right songs the mission's c
an give absolutely amazing performances. If you like garage try Right Before My Eyes by N'n'G it sounds perfectly clear and the bass line is strong while still being very sharp. With Oasis, the Gallagher’s acoustic ‘Half the World Away’ sounds sublime almost as though they are stand right in front of you, now that’s scary thought. Like all speakers they take any classical songs or songs with a lot of vocals with ease and show great clarity. I'm sure there are many songs I have not tried which sound fantastic as well and as I only have a 35W amp feeding them I believe they might not yet be showing their true colour.

If you want to purchase a pair of these then I am sure they will give you hours upon hours of pleasure and you will not be at all displeased, I certainly wasn’t. Obviously if you’re spending £300+ on your hi-fi components then the 702’s may not be best suited for your system but for those of us with little cash to splash the 702’s will do a good job of anything your music asks.

The floorstanders will carry more bass weight, as they have the cabinet space below them! Not everyone has the room though ;-) Good op sir...
