After selling a pair of Acoustic Solution AV120 floorstanding speakers on ebay I was preferably looking for some standmounters due to positioning and space or the lack of it. Searching around for a good pair of speakers for a great deal I found these on ebay after bidding on a few pairs I eventually won these for a total of £62.50 that's with £12.50 for postage and packing.
I thought this to be a good deal because they would probably still set you back around £80 or £90 if you bought them in a hifi shop as they were £170 when they were released in 1998 as part of the great 77 series Which produced some great speakers like these speakers bigger brother the 772 floorstanders.
When they were released Back in 1998 these speakers won acclaim from HIFI writers due to their sound and build quality. Although small standmounters these speakers are known for being able to produce a great bass performance that puts to shame many bigger standmounters and even some floorstanders.
Although these are small speakers even for standmounters at only a height of 31cm, 17cm wide and 23cm deep. They produce a very detailed sound of some scale and although they don't dig as deep as some bigger standmounted speakers they have the bass to cope with most music admirably.
The impressive thing about these speakers is that they integrate so well when there is a complex piece of music to deal with that needs bass power and a little midrange subtelty they can cope easily. The midrange is expressive and life like and gives instruments especially guitars the right backing to shine with a detailed sound.
Partnering this kit is pretty easy too and even though I am using an old Technics Amp these speakers have enough to drive them well. I am looking at getting the new Rotel RA04 which will improve the sound even more but for the moment I am happy with my five star Sony CD player.
Build quality is set to the usual high standard people have come to expect from Mission and another good sign is that even though they are nearly ten years old they don't look out of place at all with a new amp or cd player which can be rare due to the advancements in HIFI in that time. These will still give most speakers at the price point a run for their money.
Overall these are an amazing pair of stanmount speakers for speakers so small and ones that I will have thousands of hours of enjoyment from. If you are looking for some new speakers then check around for some online deals, these are in great condition and I'm sure you will find a pair in the same kind of condition.
