Advantages: Great sounding, medium size

Disadvantages: N/A

When I was investigating which PA speakers to invest in, Peavey were the ones that everyone I know seemed to recommend. I tried out a few pairs (which I will review on here in time) but these are the ones I bought so I will start with these.

The Pro-12 is from Peavey's 'Messenger Pro' range of speakers and, as speakers go, they are pretty good to look at. They are not massive and, according to the manual, they are 22.6" high, 16.3" wide and 14" deep. I won't argue with that. They are fairly easy to carry as they have well placed and comfortable handles on both sides of the speaker unit. I wouldn't like to carry them very far as they are quite heavy. Its quite easy to get them mounted onto speakers stands which is something that I think is very very important.

The speaker unit is covered in the black carpet material that seems to be standard with most PA speakers, it feels quite soft and offers some protection to the everyday wear and tear that they are bound to face. I've been using mine for almost two years and (touch wood) there are no major marks on them except a small dent in the metal grill which covers the actual speaker.

This speaker has both quarter inch jack and speakon connector inputs which make this quite a versatile speaker which should be able to fit into any audio set up. The 'woofer' is 12" and the compression driver is 1.75", this provides 250 rms (something which I don't really understand but I was told by someone much cleverer and experienced that the higher this number, the better). All I can say for sure is that this speaker goes LOUD! As already stated, I've been using these for almost two years and have so far never been in a situation where the sound levels provided by them have been inadequate.

You can get a pair of these for under £200 (i paid slightly more for mine) and they are worth every penny.

Summary: Excellent medium size speakers.
