The best quality sound you will find for under £80.

Before I begin, everyone needs to realise that this is a budget speaker/dock. At around £50-80, do not expect the quality and power the more expensive units offer. That said, this dock gives out amazing sound, power (20watts) and quality for its size. Fitting your iPod or iPhone of all generations to the dock is easy as it comes with adapters, to fit different versions. There's also the option to plug in other brand MP3 players or even an ipad/tablet using the mini jack input. Ive actually used this to plug in my ipad and watched a film using it as a larger speaker, which was great. If you're using your iPod or iPhone the other bonus to this dock is that the dock charges your device whilst you listen to music. This is a real bonus, especially if your charging cable is upstairs and you're lazy like me! Lots has been said about the bass boost button on the dock. This I guess is more of a party feature that certainly does add bass, which is great for banging out dance tracks if you want to keep your neighbours up! The volume you can reach on the dock is surprisingly good and you would not want to play music any louder than the max that this goes if you value your hearing! There are a couple of other cool features on the dock, such as when you get a call on your iPhone, the music stops and your ringtone plays out, so you don't miss your call. The dock also comes with a handy remote control, which is great and easy to use from a fair distance. Overall this dock has great sound and is a steal for the price. A great budget dock from Sony.

Over the years, I have owned many docking stations for my i-Pod generally because I dont buy expensive ones and they break. This docking staion from Sony was my most recent purchase, and in comparision, it is the best one yet. It didnt take me long to figure out that not only could I use it for my i-Pod but also for my i-phone, which was an added bonus, and if you read the instruction manual provided properly, you will be able to do the same, as it can be a a complicated removing the fittings to make it possible. For such a cheap device this product exhibits a brilliant quality of sound, and you can turn up the volume quite loud before you start to notice any interferance of any kind. In addition to these features, while your device is locked into the station, it will also charge, killing too birds with one stone, so acts as a charger is your corded charger breaks. I have placed the docking station on my chest of drawers on the other side of my bedroom, and I dont have to get up all the time to change music as the unit is provided with a remote control, with all the simple buttons included. If you are on a budget, then this is definitely the docking station for you, it does everything the more expensive one's do for a fraction of the price, and Im sure that if you shop around then you will find it for as little as £25, a bargain at such a low price. Definitely gets my recommendation. Thanks for reading.

      Recommended, good sound quality

I bought this iPod dock a couple of years back now, when I got my first iPhone, and it is still going strong! It comes with various different plastic fittings to change on the docking part where you plug in your device. At first I was really disappointed as I could not find a fitting that allowed me to plug in my iPhone! But after fiddling around for a while, I removed the plastic fitting completely, and use the device with no issues and I can plug in my iPhone 4S, my boyfriend's iPhone 3G, or my iPod Nano, without the inconvenience of fiddling around changing the plastic fittings. So my advice is do away with those altogether, as they are not necessary! The sound quality is brilliant for a relatively small unit! The bass sounds really good, and there is no interferance whatsoever. The unit also charges your iPod or iPhone, which I find handy too, as I rarely use my wall plug now, I just simply put my iPhone in the dock when I go to bed! It comes with a small and simple remote control. It's very basic, literally play, skip, stop, power on/off and volume buttons buttons, but it does the trick! Compared to some on the market now, it may be a little simple, as it does not have built in radio and cannot play any other devices except those with iPod sockets as far as I am aware, but if you just want something to play your tunes on with good sound quality, it does the job!

      a great unit

I have had my Sony SRS GU10IP for around 6 months and have no big complaints so far. It is a nice and stylish looking speaker unit. The speakers come with a remote control however I do tend to use mine in the kitchen and with it not being a very big room I haven't really used it so can't comment too much on how well it works, but on the odd occasion that I have used it it does the job well. I use mine in the kitchen to play my iPods when I'm cooking and the steam/heat in the kitchen hasn't caused a problem for the speakers so far. The sound quality of these speakers is very good and my music is played very well with no or little distortion at the loudest setting however the volume does not go very loud, but I don't tend to like music to loud any way so this is not a problem for me. I am very impressed with my Sony speakers and I think for the price I paid £70 I would find it difficult to get different speakers with the same standard of sound quality. My iPod's just dock straight into the front and it even has the added bonus that it charges them for me even if I don't want to play my music I can simply dock one of my iPods to charge it. If you don't have an iPod you can still plug in your mp3 via the auxiliary imput. The only negative I can think of is that the wire to plug it into the wall isn't very long but mine is on a unit next to a plug so not a problem for but might be an issue for others. Also on ciao

An average, slightly disappointing product from Sony

Sony to me is 'the brand.' I have a Sony TV, Sony surround sound system, a Sony Hi- Fi, therefore thought I'd treat myself to a Sony iPod dock. Don't get me wrong, I do like this product, I just don't rave about it like I do my other Sony products. I find it a little fiddly to put the iPod on the actual dock itself; maybe this is because I wear artificial nails... nevertheless I find it fiddly. The sound on the system is good, but I cannot have the extra bass on because it distorts the music, even if the volume isn't turned up high. I have tried the bass with different sound settings on the iPod, but it doesn't seem to make a difference. I have not even had this dock a year, but the port at the back in which you put the wire to plug in the system has already shattered, so my husband has had to tape it together. The lead is not very long either, so you have to have the dock right near a plug socket. The dock is also quite heavy, so it can be a pain to move; although the weight also means that my children can't knock it over as you can other docks. All in all, quite disappointed with this system. ************************Update************************************** After reviewing this item, my dock has actually blown! The speaker has totally gone. Needless to say I am pretty annoyed with this now and will be trying to return it. Wish me luck!

        Disadvantages

        Good price but empty sound

I recently sold my Bose sounddock because it wouldn't charge my new ipod touch. I looked at lots of speaker docks and this one really stood out with wall to wall rave reviews. At 69.99 it seemed like amazing value too. The dock arrived within a couple of days of ordering and I was pretty keen to hear what everyone had been raving about. I won't be going into all the technical detail etc.. as you can get all that from the product details and does most of that detail really help anyway? First impressions out of the box were good. It looks well built and more expensive than it is. But now. The acid test. What does it sound like? Answer? Much as it pains me to say it, pretty disappointing. I read reports about it filling the room with a rich full sound ( I was expecting an Albert Hall type experience) and it just doesn't. There isn't much of a stereo effect and there is no richness of tone or depth to the sound. Much has been made of the bass boost function which I tried, but frankly it just made the bass sound more rattly. Plus this is a bit gimicky, if the bass was rich enough this would be unnecessary. Another gripe is the fact that it just doesn't go loud enough (I know, I know I sound like a teenager). I like my music loud, well at least loud enough to drown out my singing! But it's not just about volume, it's hard for me to explain, but I need to feel the bass in my ribs not just my ears. Loud music through a poor music system is just plain annoying. I suppose the real crux of the problem is this, I had a bose system before and frankly there was absolutely no comparison. Before you say it, yes,I appreciate that there is a big price difference between the two but having owned the bose I just couldn't live with the reduced sound quality. The advice I would give anybody when shopping for something like this, if at all possible, go to a shop and do your own sound comparison. No amount of written reviews can describe a sound to you. By the way, I sent this back and bought another Bose!

        Sony SRS-GU10IP

Great speakers: Sony SRS-GU10IP I love Sony as a brand and always trust their products as they have proven to me in the past of being high quality products. I normally choose a Sony product even if it's more expensive than other products. I don't go mad on them though and won't choose them when they are much more expensive since I do have to keep an eye on my expenses. I didn't have this problem when it came to buying these speakers because they simply looked beautiful. The speakers aren't even that big but size doesn't matter really applies for this one. What I really enjoy about this speaker is that it doesn't restrict you to only the normal Mp3 player. Even though I didn't had an Ipod when I bought this speaker, I do have one now and love the fact that you can connect your Ipod, Itouch or even your Iphone to the dock of the speaker. And even better the dock even charges your device. Always very handy and you will never run out of battery while listening to your favourite music. If you don't have an Ipod then you have the auxiliary input which means you can connect your normal Mp3player to. The sound is really good and you can turn the volume up really loud. The speakers have a output of 20 watts which is quite a lot since normal small speakers have only 10 watts if I'm correct. Either or the sound is amazing and the speakers have a lot of power. Also the treble and mid-range are very clear. Maybe when you turn the volume totally up the quality might become a little bit less. On the dock you will find some basic controls like power button, input selector and volume control. You do get a remote control with the speakers where you can also control the bass and mute the sound with and it's easily to go trough the different kind of menus. There's no equalizer on the dock so you will have to use your own Ipod or Mp3player for that. I bought my Sony SRS-GU10IP for around 80 pounds but you can get them now for around 60 to 70 pound. I think the speakers are totally worth the money and they work absolutely great. The sound is very good and it's easy to operate. The only thing is that if you are looking for a radio option than you better look further because there's no radio on this one.

Very good speaker if you want to pay that price

With every product released from Sony you expect them to be of a high quality due to the price tag they come with. This one is no different so when I purchased it I wanted to make sure that it was a very good speaker dock which are of the highest standard. Something else which is important is to make sure that the actual product looks good as I thought that was something which was vital when making the purchase. Price The price for this speaker dock was just over £70 when I purchased it but it is now available for under £60 which I think is a very reasonable price for a product which is of a very high standard. Even though quite a few people would be put off by this price tag I do definitely recommend that interested people take a look at what this actually offers. Features The buttons on the speaker are what you would expect from any speaker set. They have the standard volume buttons along with the power button and so on. You will also get a remote control with this speaker which I found was pretty conveniant and meant you didn't have to manually get up and change the music you wanted to listen to. Like a number of speakers I have used I find that aslong as you are in a suitable range from the actual speaker you should be fine using the remote. Just don't expect this to work from 100m away because that is not what it is designed for. Battery Life I am not to sure based on how long this speaker would lst beause I normally keep it powered up. If I ever do leave it off it is normally for a couple of days and it has never seemed to run out which is a positive thing. Quality The qualty of the speaker dock is of the very highest standard, the quality of the music is brilliant and I think you will also find that the way it is built is very stable and looks the part. The way it looks is very appealing and it will look good in my opinion no matter were the user decides to place it. For the price that it is and the brand I don't think you will get one any better. Overall Overall I think that this speaker for the price it is would be one of the best I have seen. Even though you could find cheaper alternatives I think if you paid that extra bit for this one you will without doubt see the difference in quality between this one and a cheaper alternative.

          all round brilliant sound

Most speakers these days are being released with the mindset that most people are going to have an iPod product of some kind and so go about designing the speakers to accommodate those wants for people. The amazing thing about this device is that as small as this looks, the volume would make you think otherwise. The Sony SRS speakers are shaped rectangular, looking like a basic box with a connecting panel at the front allowing for an IPod/Touch...etc to be connected into (yet another) docking station to make it that much easier to just have that plug and play quickness, the colour is an absolutely jet black on every part of these speakers with a mesh part at the front for the sound of the speakers to be able to come through unhindered. You also get a remote control with these speakers keeping with the same colour scheme except for the very bottom where the name of the speakers is in white. At the back of the Sony speakers there is a line in jack to allow all the models of iPods/touch or maybe you have another brand of a Mp3 player that are not compatible with the docking station they can be connected into this jack with a cable that is provided for you in the box. The buttons on the front panel of the speakers are as you would find them on most speakers but with this one they have also given you a further feature of adding a button to activate a double bass, giving you a more grounded feel with those certain styles of music that benefit from this feature. The dimensions of these speakers are 12.63 x 6.13 x 7.75 in, as you can see these speakers are smaller than they look, even in this picture you wouldn't believe they are only that small, and weighing at just under 5 lb, less than half a stone. Wow. Most speakers of this size generally have only a 10 watts of power supplied for it, but this little power house has 20 watts of power only, 10 watts less than the big hi-fi systems, but this only prove that for a small set of speakers this can get very loud but that doesn't tell you about the quality of the sound. Usually speakers have a forte in an area of preference, meaning one set of speakers that can make classical music sound amazing will only make house music or any kind of club or party music sound a bit tinny and speakers that make house music sound good will probably make classical music sound a bit bassy, so it is hard to get a set of speakers that can accommodate both sides, but these speakers do deliver, they wont make either side sound amazing but they can make classical music sound good, and with the more upbeat style of music then just activate the Bass Booster button. (Say that 3 times fast). On a whole the sound is clear, it brings out all the instruments (including the quiet little sounds that you may not usually hear) and when adding the Bass booster (if required) it can add and make such a difference. when indoors and playing music it doesn't require a lot of volume to have it at a decent sound, but take it outside for a party and you will see just how clear and crisp it can sound with no buzzing or feed back. You can get the Sony SRSGU10IP 2 Ch iPod & iPhone Compatible Docking Speakers from Amazon for £70 Final Thoughts So if you want a good set of speakers that can blend in to the background indoors and provide you with a calm relaxing resonance and at the same time provide you with a powerful sound outside and you don't want to pay that almighty high price of Bose speakers then these speakers will hit home.

Get it, enjoy your iPhone and iPod that much more

I always thought it was required and that has arrived with Sony SRS-GU10IP Dock Speakers, great news atleast for me because after the mind boggling performance of SRS-GU10IP Dock Speakers I am now going to buy an Apple iPod. The Apple iPod's performance with this accessory is absolutely mind blowing and I couldn't resist the temptation. I never had any doubt about the quality and class of Apple iPods, even in my reviews I have always pointed out that the only problem with this generation of media players was its lackluster audio quality and this has been aptly upgraded by the SRS-GU10IP Dock Speakers to a flaw less audio performances by the iPod generation. In fact one of my friends was no less excited with the performance of this supplement while using it with iPhones. It is widely accepted that quality headphones has enhanced the performance of iPods to a large extent. In fact the iPods, especially the Apple generation are dogmatized by the poor quality of headphones for unknown reasons. May be a good headphone is pricy and may not keep the prices of the iPods that attractive. But previous efforts of supplying a speaker with mp3 player met with a massive fiasco. Just look at your Creative Zen with speaker, I think the addition of the speaker to the Zen was pointless to say the least. Probably it's a matter of technology, since coaxing such quality out from a comparatively tiny gadget requires a hell lot of technological expertise, and in fact modern day speaker technology is quite intricate. No doubt Sony produces excellent products but I think there is no comparison with Bose speakers which are, agreed, too pricy but none the less capable of stunning audio. But I don't think one has to fall back on Bose speakers for a good device meant for family or home entertainment. No body can deny the fact that music is very much related to human emotions and does influence their daily activity. While bad audio can ruin a quality track and at least makes me very gloomy and sad. Music is being widely used to cure incurable diseases, that speaks volumes of its influence on a human being. TEN GOOD REASONS TO MAKE IT YOUR OWN: 1) It enhances the audio quality and output of your iPods and iPhones and specially optimized for them (10/10) 2) Excellent wooden cabinet, fabulous lush black finish adding tonal quality to the audio (10/10) 3) Can be used to a large extent with devices which support 8 ohm impedance (9/10) 4) Keeps the iPod and iPhone charged with its built in charger dock (10/10) 5) Remote control for easy maneuvering from a distance (10/10) 6) No radio interference from iPhones (10/10) 7) Play music from your Mac (10/10) 8) User warranty of 1 year. (10/10) 9) AC adapter (10/10) 10) Light weight compared to its tonal quality and full functionality (10/10) That makes it nearly a gymnast's perfect score; well I bet it deserves it full and thorough. LET'S HAVE PEEP AT ITS TECHNICAL SPECS: (copied and pasted) Audio in: Single stereo mini-jack Inputs: iPod 30-pin plug and one stereo mini input for alternate audio sources Driver unit: 2.25 in./5.7 cm Impedance: 8 ohms Power: 100-240 VAC 'Output power: 20W total (10W + 10W) Magnet: Ferrite Dimensions (WxDxH): 12.63 x 6.13 x 7.75 in./32.0 x 15.4 x 19.4 cm Weight: 4.6 lb./2.1 kg Now that hardly looks enviable. I am absolutely satisfied with its performance over the whole range of the audio spectrum but must add that it seems a bit low on the high frequency range (the treble) but that does not give a tweak just jerk the iPhone and the equalization is there. Probably some technological whim to snuff out wireless interference. If I remember correctly Apple has whole heartedly recommended it and no wonder. Talking about aesthetics there also it scores 10/10, beautiful trendy and high-tech looks. When it is connected to the Apple iPod touch 8GB the Sony SRS-GU10IP Dock Speakers provides not only power full and rich audio but it is also very deep in bass, intense and soothing. The Bass Boost performs to a nicety. It is only natural because it is stuffed with full range bass-reflex and the woofer to work up the treble. No problems at all with iPods but as I mentioned earlier needs a jerk when connected with iPhone. I can't but adore its wonderful performance at low volume. It is good that Sony has rightly decided to keep its trust with convention by using the wooden cabinet, may be it adds to the weight but never mind it adds substantially to the tonal quality of the system. SOME IMPORTANT ISSUES: IT definitely compatible with iPod touch 2G No problems with iPhone 3g. Even the Apple Nano 5G is supported. I have tried it with my Creative Zen, its wonderful. I think the manual does not say all, may be it has too much to say. No grudges there. Coming to the price factor £99.95 Ships: Within 24hrs and the shipping charges are free.
