Advantages: Affordable, good sound quality, ideal for playing a good range of music, very loud.
Disadvantages: Not suited for mixing.
Having a small home music studio I need a good range of speakers and monitors to listen to various mixes through. I didn't want anything massively expensive as I have a good set of monitors for mixing. So after reading many reviews I found the Sony SSF-6000.
THE SPECS:
Black floor standing speakers, 180 watt output , size = (H) 950mm (W) 215 mm (D) 260mm, four way bass reflex speakers accompanied by 2.5cm nano tweeters that expands high end frequencies , 8cm Kevla hop for mid bass this is to increase sound quality and delivery of power and 16cm mica reinforced cellular woofer for the banging bass sounds. All are magnetically shielded which means if they are next to a visual appliance i.e. TV or monitor the speakers wont create any interference or impair viewing quality. As standard they come with a 1 year manufacturers guarantee.
QUALITY:
They arrived on my doorstep in excellent packaging, defo a two man job in lifting these things. I simply connected the speakers up to my amp via phono cables. Don't be disheartened if they sound rather unbalance at first, be patient as they'll take a while to bed in after they start to vibrate for a few hours. They look very sleek but the quality of the speak grilles are a lot to be desired for. I'm always conscious of my kids poking them, although thankfully none of the grills have broken as yet. As with most speakers they take maybe a week or so to bed in. By that I mean sound detail especially the bass frequency to break in. Mid range is ok but is lacking in sound detail. Both speakers are running through a Denon amp and you can play anything from classical to heavy rock if you have the amp set up correctly. Everything sounds pretty colourful and rich, tones are simply vibrant for speakers of this price. I also use these speakers for parties, although they are too heavy for me to keep lugging about up and down stairs, but they really do the job well
OVERALL:
They are fantastic value for money and look great either side of my mixing console. But don't expect amazing sound detail from these beasts. However you can't go wrong with these little giants, but they are not high end products. Highly recommended for listening to your everyday music on, but not so good for mixing tracks or watching TV through as bass is over powering. I've had mine for some 6 years now and they have served me well and have never let me down.
Purchased from Amazon for £169 including delivery.
Summary: Affordable, excellent quality speakers that are nice to look at.
