Definitive Technology BP10B Bipolar Floorstanders:
... are the best floor standing speakers I have ever owned. I bought them about a year ago for £200 for the pair second hand but they were only about 3 years old when I got them so still under the 5 year warranty- not that I expect Definitive to honour it to second hand buyers! They originally retailed for around £1200 for the pair in the UK as these are imported from the USA. I got them as an upgrade from their sm... Definitive Technology BP8B Bipolar Floorstanders ... owned a pair of these for a year and were the first Definitive speakers I ever owned (it was only for a year because I saw a deal for some BP10B s that was too good to resist so I upgraded). The first time I set them up I remember hearing that typical American speaker sound for the first time since I worked in an expensive Hi-Fi shop while I was in school. The way the bass was so deep and controlled whilst the treble was so clear and extended well into and beyond high frequencies I could not hear is captivating. The sound makes everything exciting, they add drama to everything and sound particularly atmospheric and typically American sounding with horns and violins. Not... Mission m70 series ... I have a powerful amplifier; and I think I may have slightly damaged one of the speakers, as under normal circumstances they sound fine, but there s a certain frequency that comes up in some songs that sounds quite distorted. Still, it s lasted enough for me to justify saying that they are very durable! Wharfedale Valdus 400 ... a pair of these beasts for about 7 years and they play in medium sized semi detached house rooms. Great for Meaty moody base music as they are driven by two 8 inch bass units on each speaker. They push a serious base melody that would lend itself to old hardcore or smooth base music. Unfortunately the tweeters blew on mine after 4 years. The best of these units comes pushing in at high volumes where plenty of bass feedback is needed. But beware, make sure your neighbours are out of the house before you commit your acoustic sins at high level volumes....
