The Digitheatre from Videologic is a simple Home Cinema speaker system capable of bringing Dolby Digital (AC-3) 5.1 surround sound to you TV, DVD, PC or even a games console. Many people now own DVD players and watch films on Sky Digital but how many of you are still listening via Nicam stereo or Dolby Pro Logic. If so you?re really missing out on a truly cinematic experience that Dolby Digital can offer. Inside the box you will find a small decoder box with an LCD display, two front speakers, two rear speakers, one centre speaker, and a larger subwoofer speaker which incorporates the amplifier. You also get a small credit card sized remote control as well as all the necessary leads. Connecting all this up is very straight forward and the manual is very good. After a few minutes of attaching leads and plugging in both the decoder and subwoofer (so you will need two plug sockets near by) I was ready to test the system out. I already own a Pro Logic TV so I was more than interested to see how my DVDs sounded using the Digitheatre and I can say the difference is huge. Whereas in normal Pro Logic the rear speakers add a little bit of atmosphere wether this be rain, wind etc but in Dolby Digital the sound is amazing and you really have to hear it yourself to fully appreciate the vast difference it makes. As far as watching DVDs or TV programmes broadcast in Dolby Digital this system is superb and I have no hesitation in recommending it to anyone. Now if you?ve read some of the other opinions about the Digitheatre you will see that it gains top marks however it does have a few drawbacks. Firstly when watching normal TV (Pro Logic) it does lack a bit of bass, especially compared to my Pro Logic TV (which isn?t a top of the range model by any means), also you will have to read the manual and fiddle about with the settings and speaker placement to get the best out of it. The subwoofer has a volume control which you use to set it to a desired le vel then you can adjust it either way with either the remote or the decoder box. The remote does have a mute button but if you wanted to turn the volume right down you will have to get up. This may not be a big problem for some but I do find it a little annoying. Another point worth mentioning is that the both the decoder box and subwoofer will have to be placed relatively close together due to the small lead supplied, although you could upgrade it at a further cost. Also be aware that theirs a fair amount of wires and as mention you will need two free plug sockets, so it?s a point woth mentioning if the back of your TV is already a spaghetti mess like mine. Finally unless you get very close it is impossible to see the LCD screen on the decoder box, again this isn?t really a problem. There is a more expensive version available which is capable of producing DTS sound but for most people Dolby Digital is sufficient and the difference between DTS and DD 5.1 is less clear cut. Also take into account that many discs in the UK do not have a DTS soundtrack on them. I know I spent the a couple of paragraphs pointing out a few of the systems faults but If you already own a DVD player and have yet to take the plunge into Dolby Digital then this system is a real treat and not to be missed. This opinion is based on the Digitheatre being priced at a very reasonable £150, which is what I paid for mine. At the time of writing it is currently on sale in Argos for a hefty £249.99 but at this price it may be worth shelling out a few more pounds for a more expensive system but If you can pick it up for £150 then I recommend it very highly indeed.

This little beauty set me back 150 quid...so its come down from 250 from last year. But to be honest have home theatre systems come along much in the last year or so? In my view they haven't. Yeh you get the cheap ones where the bass and sound quality aren't the best but for future technology...they all do the same. So whats home cinema system then? Well basicly its a set of speakers where if you position it around the room well enough your get the effect that your in a cinema or there in person. If a shot is fired...the bullet will go around all the speakers which are placed around you. Bare in mind this only works if the speakers are set far enough away from each other and its in a large area. Home cinema systems are useless if you live in a shoebox of a bedroom. This great system 7 speakers, 1 subwoofer and a electronic box. Basicly the 7 speakers are your average hifi speakers while the subwoofer is a massive box which allows you to adjust the bass. The bass is what creates the booming sound and allows you to set the volume up to stupid limits...but lets face it...inless your at a public event...who has there tv up full volume? The electronic box allows you to control what type of speakers you want to use. E.G. Do you want all speakers going...or just the side or front ones etc. You can control how loud you want certain speakers to be etc. To be honest it doesn't really do much but it makes it look abit trendy :) Anything with an LCD screen looks good LOL. This system can be used for our VCR, DVD, PS2 but maybe its just my TV but I am pretty sure it isnt...but it can't be used on TV's so you can't watch Eastenders in surround sound :( Sound quality is exceptional. There is no crackling in the background and when you really turn the volume up...that is when this thing comes into its own little world. Really I have never had any problems with it so far and touch wood not likely to as this is well put tog ether. Tough plastic. Its available in charcoal or silver but it really has to match the TV so mine is black. You get a small...like credit card remote but the buttons are a good size. I never use this but you can adjust the volume and test the system to make sure sound is coming out of each speaker. Alex

There isn't anything I can say that hasn't already been written about this superb surround sound baby. Except, if you are in the market for one they are now available at Richer sounds for £299.95. Thats how much I just paid for mine. It could have been priced up wrong but I wasn't going to ask. It was a toss up between the Yamaha HTBI 40 and the Videologic, but at under £300 the digitheatre won. The only gripe I have with this kit is that the centre console / speaker looks like a bedside radio alarm clock.

Dolby Digital at a fraction the price of more expensive models. VideoLogic DigiTheatre is one the cheapest system around to give you great quality sound for your room. I have had my system coming up to over a year and I tell you it was the best two hundred and fifty pounds that I have ever spent. What you get ------------------ What you get in the box is six dedicated speakers including subwoofer with built in six-channel amplifier separate decoder box and slim-line remote control. Instruction manual is very clear to understand there no complicated information that anyone would not be able to understand. You also get the speaker wire and the audio cables to connect to amplifier to the decoder. You also get the connection to connect you dvd player up as well. The Decoder ------------------ The decoder is a very small device, which has quite a few options available on it. The decoder can output the following Dolby Digital (AC-3) – This is used for many dvd players or even connecting to your computer if you have digital sound card. Dolby Pro Logic decode – This is used to connect to stereo Television or VCR also. There are two types on input for the device one coaxial and Fibre Optical. I have connected my through fibre optical for pure digital output from my DVD player. This cable is not supplied by the company and cost me around 40 pounds for one. I know it sounds pricey for a 2-meter cable but it was well worth it. The decoder does have a LCD display to see all your control option that you select and control the volume for each speaker a well. Remote Control --------------------- The remote control is one of the poorest things about the whole system. It’s very small and can control the whole decoder from your speak but you do need to inline the remote straight at the decoder. Individual volume control for each speaker Delay control Mute on/off Bass Control over modes (digital, Dolby pro-logic) Overall I though this was a great product at just a great price. I know you all properly know that I’m the type of person who loves thing for a cheap price. The quality of the sound is excellent I’ve got nearly 194 DVD and they all sound wicked. I watch all of movies through this sound system and I must admit the bass is really loud. I played the Matrix and their one scene from the gun shooting which some almost as if you’re there. Their one important thing to remember is that when you get your speaker is that the positioning is really a key factor for great sound. There are several suggestions in the manual but do have a mess around as you may find better quality in different positions. I would recommend this product to anyone, remember that you don’t have to connect your dvd to the sound system but you could also connect your game consoles as well. I got my playstion hook up as well,

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

If you love movies as much as me you try to get as close to a cinematic experience in your own home. So you already own a DVD player and wide screen television well the only thing missing is a complete Dolby Digital home cinema system. The VideoLogic Digitheatere is one such system. It has all you could possibly want. It has two front speakers, two rear speakers, a centre speaker, a subwoofer, the decoder and of course a remote control. All the connecting cables are provided and although there are a lot of speakers it is very easy to wire up. The build quality of everything is excellent with the speakers all being sturdy yet stylish. The remote control is credit card sized yet the buttons aren’t too small. The volumes of all the speakers can be adjusted individually as to can the delays placed on them. This enables you to set up the system to give the best possible performance. It is easy to set up the decoder to provide the sound you want. It can provide Dolby Digital, which is heard in the cinema, and is also the format found on Dad’s as well as being able to handle Dolby Pro Logic that is the sound format found on videos. Ok. What does it sound like you I hear you say? Well I am very qualified to tell you as I have taken the system to full volume which had the neighbours so impressed the bought the same system! It picks up many split effects and like cars driving past very well and all bullet ricochets are perfectly placed adding more depth and realism to whatever you watch. Such films as Twister have the subwoofer shaking the floor due to the incredible bass sounds. This adds another dimension of realism creating the effect you are in the film. There are also some excellent split effects in movies like The Mummy (the aircraft scene sounds great), Godzilla (plenty of deep rumbles in this one) and Mission: Impossible 2 (the motorcycle scene sounds amazing). The amazing thing is that the louder it goes the better it sounds. I watched Jurassic Park and Jurassic Park: The Lost World and kept turning the volume up. This gives the rumbles from the subwoofer even more energy and the quieter sounds that are hidden at low volume are more noticable. I eventually had it at full volume and the speakers were perfect with no sign of hissing or crackling. It really is amazing. And I was not joking my neighbour did buy it off the strength of the sound they heard next door. The sound from all the films I mentioned came from DVDs but the quality coming from videos is just as high. It enhances the Pro Logic surround and adds some more depth by adding the subwoofer. Films like True Lies and Lethal Weapon 4 sound great on video too. The great thing is it isn’t just for getting the sound for movies you can also connect your PC, Playstaion or Dreamcast, or even a MiniDisc Player or Cd Player. So for your money you get a speaker system that is extremely versatile. I have connected my MiniDisc player to it and it sounds superb. It makes it seem like you are at a concert. So it just shows that it isn’t just for movies. It costs £248 although my neighbour found it on Dabs.com cheaper. All in all this is one of the best value surround systems on the market. It is one of the cheapest and yet doesn’t disappoint in the quality department providing sound, which you literally have to hear to believe. But believe me it is worth the investment.

            Advantages

            Disadvantages

I bought this system with the intent of using it to plug straight into my PlayStation2 through and optical cable. The sound is fantastic, especially if, like me, you are only used to TV speakers which are very poor quite frankly. DVD movies really come alive with crisp bass, though the Sub can struggle sometimes at very low frequency. The system also allows a stereo TV to be plugged in, which it can then convert into surround sound using Doby Pro Logic. With a variety of inputs you can connect games consoles, hifis, DVD players, PCs, mini discs, TVs and videos - and all cables are provided, except optical which you will need to connect a PlayStation2. Instructions are also very informative suggesting the best setup for your room size. This is accompanied by the option to change the balance on all speakers and a variety of different modes mean you can get the right sound you are looking for.

            Advantages

            Disadvantages

Having spent £150 upwards on a DVD player you're only going to get half of the new experience unless you hook a digital surround sound home speaker system up to it. To my mind the increase in audio quality given by DVD is even higher than the image quality increase. Ive had a Sony dolby prologic surround package for 5 years or so now and watched loads of videos using my nicam player in dolby surround. Recently Ive become more and more annoyed at the quality of audio on the tapes - they just cant hold the full prologic info correctly giving speaker drop out, hiss, and load of nasty problems. When I upgraded to DVD (see my Wharfedale 750 review) I wanted new sounds too but being the cheapskate that I am I didnt want to spend £500+ on a new amp, 5 speakers, and a sub so I went for the Videologic Digitheatre DTS system. For £400 I got a suprisingly small box containing 1 large wooden sub, 1 normal sized centre speaker which also holds the buttons and knobs, and 4 very small surround speakers, as well as speaker cables, a coax lead, and a remote control. Installation was complete inside 5 minutes which each speaker and the dvd player wired back to the sub, plug it into the mains, switch on the player, and fall over at the AMAZING sound quality given for such a cheap system !!!! This system is sooooo good I cant understand why anyone would want to spend more, apart from loosing the sub behind a table in my front room (1 quick super long digital audio cable manufacture!) you can hardly tell that its there at all until you watch a DVD. The bass is amazing (ive had to turn it down incase i ruin my good relations with the neighbours!), the centre is 2 notches up to give good vocal output, and the rest is just as it was when it arrived. This system is blinding !!!!
