Advantages: Cheap, small, amazing audio quality

Disadvantages: so good you'll have the neighbours round complaining

Having spent £150 upwards on a DVD player you're only going to get half of the new experience unless you hook a digital surround sound home speaker system up to it. To my mind the increase in audio quality given by DVD is even higher than the image quality increase.

Ive had a Sony dolby prologic surround package for 5 years or so now and watched loads of videos using my nicam player in dolby surround. Recently Ive become more and more annoyed at the quality of audio on the tapes - they just cant hold the full prologic info correctly giving speaker drop out, hiss, and load of nasty problems. When I upgraded to DVD (see my Wharfedale 750 review) I wanted new sounds too but being the cheapskate that I am I didnt want to spend £500+ on a new amp, 5 speakers, and a sub so I went for the Videologic Digitheatre DTS system. For £400 I got a suprisingly small box containing 1 large wooden sub, 1 normal sized centre speaker which also holds the buttons and knobs, and 4 very small surround speakers, as well as speaker cables, a coax lead, and a remote control. Installation was complete inside 5 minutes which each speaker and the dvd player wired back to the sub, plug it into the mains, switch on the player, and fall over at the AMAZING sound quality given for such a cheap system !!!!

This system is sooooo good I cant understand why anyone would want to spend more, apart from loosing the sub behind a table in my front room (1 quick super long digital audio cable manufacture!) you can hardly tell that its there at all until you watch a DVD. The bass is amazing (ive had to turn it down incase i ruin my good relations with the neighbours!), the centre is 2 notches up to give good vocal output, and the rest is just as it was when it arrived.

This system is blinding !!!!

Tell me, do you use the coaxial digital audio cable provided, or did you buy a seperate optical one? If you chose the latter, do you notice any difference in quality? I'm thinking of buying the Digitheatre DTS myself, and would like to get everything perfect from the outset. Excellent review, by the way.
