Asda Smart Price Sweetcorn
Advantages: 33p a tin
Disadvantages: No ring pull
We use tinned sweetcorn a lot at home, and paying around 66pence for a tin of Green Giant, it soon mounts up. We found this smart price alternative for only 33pence for a 326g tin.
The packaging carries the same style as all Asda smart price products, it is in a tin, has a white label with a picture of a bowl of sweetcorn on the front, it also has the tell tale green smart price coloured font with sweetcorn written on the front.
To open the tin, there is no ring pull, but as this is a cheap product I can live with that. When you open the tin, it is surprisingly full, they definitely haven't been tight with the amount they give. It was full to the top. It all had a good bright yellow colour, the same as any higher brands we have had. When you drained the juice from the can there was still plenty of sweetcorn left, they hadn't just filled the can with juice.
The taste of this sweetcorn was very good, nice and crunchy, good flavour, not too sweet or salty, there were no black bits, nothing needed picking out. This went perfect in our tuna pasta, and once mixed in you would never know it was from such a cheap tin!
We had this cold, but you can have it warm. Just heat in the microwave for one minute, or on the hob for 4/5minutes. Both ways work very well. This product should be stored in a cool place, if you don't eat the whole can in one sitting just put it in a container and put it the fridge, it will stay fresh for a couple more days.
The Nutritional values per 100g drained sweetcorn are as follows.
A good healthy addition to many meals, tuna pasta, chicken pasta, soups, casseroles, much more!
To sum up, if you are currently buying top brand sweetcorn, try a tin of this, it is excellent value for money - make sure you have a tin opener though!
Summary: Lovely cheap product
