Advantages: Quick easy tasty snack
Disadvantages: Sometimes can be pricey
I must admit over the years, I have not been a fan of the Baked Bean, I`ve begrudged paying £0.60p for a tin and I know that you can buy cheap versions but I`ve yet to find one I like.
Our local Morrissons were doing 8 tins for £2, so thought I`d pick up a couple of packs for my children. On arriving home my partner commented had we come in to some money and when I said how much they were he was surprised. The kids immediately asked could they have some for lunch and I duly served some up with toast.
My other half was called away on business and rather than waste them, I was having toast, I ate his. MMMM wow, they were gorgeous, I loved them, I`m not sure how as I `ve always hated the things. What a quick and easy meal, I`ve even put instant mash on the top and served it as a quick pie.
My favourite though has to be egg, beans and chips, so quick and delicious.
The sauce is a thick tomato sauce and the tin (415g) is packed to the top with bans. The beans are a rich orangey colour and soft to chew. And the tin has a ring pull that makes it easy opening.
You can heat them gently on a hob while stirring or microwave them in a couple of minutes.
They are suitable for a gluten free diet. Suitable for vegetarians. And have a low glycaemic index (GI), they also contain no artificial colours, flavours or preservatives.
