Advantages: Cooking bag DOES keep food moist

Disadvantages: Way, way too salty

Like most of the reviewers I bought these recently when they were on offer in Asda. I tried two - the BBQ chicken and the Smokey BBQ Rib mix.

I loved the way the chicken cooked in the bag, it really did keep the juice in and made the coating nice and sticky and flavourful.

However I found the cooked product particually salty. I am not one of the anti salt brigade, but according the the BBQ rib pack I have left there is almost 20% salt by weight in this particular mix. From memory the chicken one was even highter. The chicken and ribs were tasty, but after a while I started to get the dry lip feeling you get when swimming in the sea, and for the rest of the evening was really thirsty! My partner and I did eat rather a lot, so perhaps this wouldn't have been as bad had we stuch to the single chicken breast each...

Such a shame this product is so salty, could be really good. I only really bought these to try but won't be buying again.

I did really like the cooking method, and have successfully replicated it with foil, so really no need to buy these expensive little bags of salt in future! Just added various spices, garlic and herbs a pinch of salt and a pinch of sugar to meat and wrapped it in foil to bake. Longer and slower seems to work best.

Summary: Avoid - use foil and your own spices.
