** Morrisons Value Baked Beans **
I don't spend as much time in Morrisons as I do Tesco, Asda and Sainsbury's but there is one not far from my girlfriends parents house so I do pop in every once in a while to get some cheap cat food. I do usually pick up a few of their cheapo home brand grocery items if we're running a bit low back home.
I love baked beans on toast so at 26p per tin I wasn't going to say no to the Morrisons Value Baked Beans. When left to my own devices I indulge in MAN COOKING. All this really entails is trying to cook yourself a snack with the absolute minimum of fuss. If it doesn't involve a microwave, or can't be opened cooked and served in under 4 or 5 minutes it is NOT man cooking :o)
Of course when I am cooking a meal for the rest of the family that is an entirely different matter. But a crafty beans on toast while everybody's out -that is my forte.
So in the microwave the Morrisons Value Baked Beans went. In common with most other supermarket home brand value range there was a ludicrous tomato sauce to beans ratio. But there were still a good 3 quarters of a can of actual beans.
I always tip away a lot of the sauce before I microwave my beans simply because there is too much of it and it would make my toast very soggy.
I believe you can tell a lot about the quality of food just from smelling it. The Morrisons Value Baked Beans in their cold unheated state had a slight sharp and sweet tomato sauce odour that was pleasantly hopeful.
After 3 minutes in the microwave poured onto my toast the beans looked inviting enough and thanks to tipping away the excess sauce before microwaving the beans did not spoil the toast.
The taste of beans is in one way comparable to rice. They both taste of nothing much themselves but a great at taking on the characteristic flavour of whatever sauces they're covered with.
So it is hard for me to say whether the taste of the Morrisons beans is superior or worse than other supermarket brands. I can say with conviction that I thought the taste of the sauce in the Morrisons Value Baked Beans was slightly superior to the Asda and Tesco and possibly even a bit tastier than the Sainsbury's cheap beans.
So not bad for a cheap can of beans and they shape up well against similar products even though they fall a little short when compared to more expensive brands like Heinz.
But for a crafty snack in the tiny pamphlet that is MAN COOKING. I'm going to give Morrisons Value Baked Beans a big thumbs up.
Thanks for reading my review.
