Advantages: Cheap! Great value!
Disadvantages: None.
A good old tin of chopped tomatoes is a must for all kitchen cupboards in my opinion, as there is so much you can do with your them. Add it to mince and garlic etc for your spag bol, create other such pasta dishes such as tuna pasta bake, or use it to make your pizza toppings.
Being a Morrison's shopper these days, I tend to buy the value version.
The Morrison's Value Range is similar to Tesco's version in the fact that it offers customers great prices for their own versions of items that can cost much more. They do this by using basic packaging and perhaps less expensive ingredients. This is not to say that the quality is any less, though.
The chopped tomatoes come in a plain yellow packaged tin and are just 35p for 400g. Suitable for vegetarians, and part of your five a day, the tin contains tomatoes, tomato juice and citric acid.
But what do they taste like?
Absolutely fine. They are a no thrills, simple purchase, but they do exactly what you want them to do (or exactly what it says on the tin?)
The taste if quite sweet, and you do tend to get some slightly discoloured tomatoes, which is what you would probably not get on the more expensive types, but added to your other ingredients such as herbs and garlic to create your dishes, these are just great and any discolouring so disappears.
Let's face it, you don't buy a tin of tomatoes to eat on their own, do you?
Summary: Great tinned tomatoes at a fair price...
