I started buying tins of tomatoes about 2 or 3 years ago when I changed my diet to a more healthy one. I have always eaten pasta but have generally just grabbed a bottle of the sauce that you heat up and throw on the plate that goes with the pasta.
I wanted to cut out as many additives and fat etc as I could, buying tomatoes in tins seemed the easiest way as they keep for ages. I also use them for soup and adding to other recipes and snacks.
This REVIEW is about Napolina tins of tomatoes which I buy when they are £2 for a pack of 4 on sale, they are normally £4 for 4 in Tesco. There is often at least one brand of Tomatoes on sale and I go for the one that is on sale.
last time these were on sale I bought two packs of 4 tins ( 8 in total ). These are really good value when on sale, at only 50 p each per tin for very good quality tomatoes.
I use them as much for home made soup as pasta, and also quiche or snacks. I discovered I could use them as soup when I had no soup and did not want any pasta or had none I cant remember. I pored the chopped tomatoes in a bowl and put them in the microwave for 2 mins expecting them to be not that great.
When I tasted it, the soup, after some more preparation, was very strong and rich flavoured and natural, not like tinned tomato soup which is sugary.
I always have these in stock and they are even good to eat cold, although that is not every ones taste, I served some up on crackers as I love them with pepper, but that is a bit of a strech for most people.
Each 400 g tin contains 70 % chopped tomatoes the rest I presume is Tomato juice and citric acid as they are the other ingredients.
