Advantages: Quick, easy, filling

Disadvantages: Plain, boring, baby-food-like

Having a meal and realising there isn't quite enough of everything is awful. You feel like you're depriving everyone around you of basic essential nourishment... this is when you grab a bag of the smash. Or at least the basics brand!

Obviously, a mashed potato mix is no contender to an actual mashed spud... but sometimes it's too late when you've plated up and need a quick extra bit of padding! It's alright if you already have a good main meal consisting of something like a burger, or sausages, or something along those lines with veg. I think to pull it off you need other lovely components to your meal... here's why!

To make up, hot water is placed in a bowl and then you add the mashed potato mix into it. Beat it together with a fork to get it to a creamy and thick mashed potato consistency. I suggest adding some milk, seasoning such as salt and pepper, and also a tad of butter/marg will perk it up a lot. Which, I can tell you, it needs it! If no seasoning is added, or you have no gravy/BBQ sauce/ketchup/anything, it's incredibly bland and quite disgusting. With seasoning, it's only just bearable.

1 packet of the basics mash mix makes six servings. It's good value, as I've only used a small amount for two medium portions and still have over half the packet left. Plus, it keeps for a stupidly long amount of time, so no worries about it going stale (although, you wouldn't notice due to the taste anyway!)

Personally, I feel the instant mashed potato is just passable. However, I wouldn't consume regularly at all. Only in absolute emergencies... even then, It would be an absolute last resort. It tastes typically like packet mash does. There's not any difference between this stuff and any other's I've tasted. Just make you sure you use a lorra flavouring to make it edible!

To Conclude
---------------

The taste was just as I expected, bland, fake and boring. However, adding sauces/gravy has made my mash experience from awful to acceptable... It was easy to make, and leaves a nice creamy texture. The creamy texture is slightly odd though... similar to baby food. It's fine as a meal filler, but only fill your families meals! Don't expect guests to be oh so thrilled with your mash!

Thanks for reading.

Summary: Nothing special!
