Advantages: Nice peas for a quick meal.

Disadvantages: None.

I buy a lot of a shops own brand of items, I think they cheap enough to buy and are a good price if you are trying to save a little bit of money. I am at the moment in areas that I can reduce my shopping bill so that I have a little more money for Christmas which is fast approaching. I like to stock up with branded and non branded canned foods for when the bad weather arrives so that I at least have vegetables to make a hot meal just in case the bad weather continues.

These peas come in a can and have to be opened using a can opener. The label on the front is very basic looking and in the usual colours of orange and white from the Sainsbury's own brand of items. Once the lid is removed the peas are in water, which does contain salt and sugar. So it is worth bearing in mind that the water does contain these ingredients. If you prefer, you can just rinse the peas and cook them in just water if that is your preference. The size of these peas is a good size and not too small. They have a nice pale green colour, the colour is not quite as dark as a branded one but they do look unappetising. They look like any normal pea in my opinion inside the can, just a little paler in colour.

They are soft and not hard peas as I first imagined they may be because of the price. These ones easy to chew and swallow with no problems at all. My little grandson can easily chew and swallow them too. They do not taste disgusting or bland, they are a really nice tasting peas and they do have quite a strong taste of peas. They are not obviously as nice as the branded ones in my opinion but they are quite adequate for a shops own brand.

They also have a pleasant smell of peas just like any other brand. The smell is a nice one and one that I am happy with. They are easy to cook and all that is needed is to pour the contents of the can into a saucepan and heat gently on the hob for around 3 minutes or so and they are ready to eat. A quite time for anyone looking to eat a canned vegetable and do not have enough time to prepare a fresh vegetable.

These I find very handy to have in my cupboard for days when I do not feel very well and am looking for a vegetable and a quick meal. I do not use these every day or every week but I do use them for those days when I am not too well. The amount of peas inside the can is easily enough to feed 2 adults and even a child. Used with any other canned vegetable, there are enough peas for even up to 4 people. I can easily feed myself and hubby and also my little grandson with just one can with another vegetable. These are a good way of still eating your 5 a day and it means that I can still keep healthy if I am wanting to use them for a couple of days or so until I feel a little better.

They can also be heated in a microwave for a couple of minutes. They taste the same cooked both on the hob and in the microwave in my opinion. The size of the can is 300g and they are priced at just 17p and so a very cheap price for a can of vegetables. They also contain per half a can, 58 calories, total sugars 0.5g, 0.4g of fat, 3.3g of fibre and 0.14g of salt.

Once opened, any peas that have not been eaten can be placed into a no metal container and placed in the fridge but they must be eaten within 24 hours.

Overall these peas have been very handy in my cupboard for emergencies and have been a good life product to have handy for those times I have needed them. I highly recommend these for anyone looking to buy a cheaper brand of peas or just looking to buy a lower brand from your normal brand. They are nice tasting peas and are very tasty eaten with any food that you like to eat with peas. I often use these peas as an extra food in a curry etc. They work just as good in curries too. I will continue to buy these because they give me all the taste that I expect from a cheaper brand of peas. They are excellent quality and very good value for money for just 17p in my opinion.

I give these 5 stars.
