Tesco Baked Beans In Tomato Sauce
Advantages: Tasty, Tomato Sauce is Nice, Cheap!
Disadvantages: Not Heinz.
Since becoming a student, I have had to step down from tasty and branded foods to find myself eating a considerable amount more of baked beans on toast! I am actually pretty easy to please when it comes to food, and I have always loved baked beans so for me it is both a tasty and purse friendly meal. Unfortunately, I like to eat beans with a number of things, so I get through tins of them quite quickly. Previous to these beans, I had always eaten Heinz beans, but as they are quite expensive to buy regularly when on a budget, I thought I would try out some supermarket own branded instead.
I ended up purchasing the Tesco's own branded ones from my local store. As I am situated in the city centre, it means that there is not much choice when it comes to variety of foods on offer, however I noticed a couple of tins of these hiding at the back of the shelf. They were only 42p for the large tins that they are, and they contain 420 grams in each tin which is great for the money paid. You can also buy a multipack of four of these for just £1.00, which works out at a measly 25p per tin which is fantastic considering they can be stored in your cupboard for months on end. As far as I was concerned, the price was fantastic. There are cheaper baked beans available from the Tesco Value range, but I thought I would go for these as they might be of a little better quality.
The tins simply display an image of baked beans all over the front and show the obvious details which you would expect on any food tin. Not the prettiest tin but who really cares how a tin of baked beans look? All I was interested in was how tasty they were, and if they would come close to Heinz.
These beans can be cooked in two ways, the first being in the microwave. Just simply pop them into a microwaveable bowl and cover and pop them in for a couple of minutes and stir. Dependent on your microwave will depend on the time you will need to leave these in. However, I have always preferred to cook mine on the hob as I think the taste always comes through more. These only need to be put on the hob for around three or so minutes and remember to stir. Do not overcook these though as they will stick to the saucepan and it can be messy! As far as ease of cooking goes, these are great.
Now the most important element was the taste. I knew they wouldn't be as good as Heinz, however beans are beans. I was pleasantly surprised with just how yummy these were for the price I paid. The tomato sauce is full of flavour and really adds to the beans which taste of a similarly high quality. You can tell slightly that they're not Heinz beans, but for the price I paid I was over the moon with how delicious these were and I will continue to buy these from now on as it saves me so much money.
I personally like to eat beans on toast, or combine it with bacon, sausage, egg and other components of a yummy English breakfast. As well, these beans are effective for eating at dinner times with mash and meats so would be perfect for kids too who are bound to not notice the difference. As I live alone, I only use half a tin of these at any one time, so I just pop it into the fridge and consume within a couple of days. However, these tins would be suitable for families to make numerous dinners at a budget price.

Overall, a delicious alternative to Heinz and I will definitely be buying these again. They are just a smidgen of the price and they taste wonderful. Can not fault these! Thanks for reading.
Summary: Excellent offering from Tesco.
