“ Brand: Tesco / Type: Potatoes „
Since becoming a student, I have started learning the basics of cooking, but due to being quite busy throughout the day, I often fall for convenience food, whether this be a takeaway or microwave meal as I am just so tired after work and university. I wanted something for dinner that was filling and tasty, yet really simple to prepare, so I was thrilled when I spotted these new potatoes with herbs and butter in Tesco.
Not only did the convenience aspect make me purchase these, but the price of them. This small bag of potatoes only costs £1.00 which I think is brilliant, and you can get a good two meals out of this, therefore 50p a dinner seems good to me and quite a bargain for such tasty food. Another thing to note is that every time I have seen these potatoes, they have been on offer 3 for £2.50 saving you a bit of money. This is not much use to me as I do not need that many potatoes just for me, however would be an excellent option for families. Obviously these are only available in Tesco stores, or online on their website if you do online grocery deliveries.
You get 375 grams of new potatoes which in itself is not that much, and the bag is quite small. I'd say at a guess that you get around 10 or so potatoes inside it as I find that it makes two side dishes and I can get two meals out of it. Obviously they are new potatoes which are the smaller potatoes, and prior to this I never used to be a big fan of them, and this is because I had only really ever experimented them dry or with just gravy to dress them. However, I could not believe how much I have converted to these herb and butter potatoes!
It is described on the packet as containing "an aromatic and mint infused dressing and rich, creamy butter". The first thing I noted about the smell was that there was quite a lot of mint within these, so if you are not a fan, stay clear! I personally love the taste of mint and feel that they accompany potatoes very well. The dressing sounded absolutely delicious to me, so I thought I would go ahead and get them fired up in the microwave. Depending on the power of your microwave will obviously depend on how long you need to heat them. Generally, these take about seven minutes in the microwave which is quite fast for potatoes. To heat them up, it is incredibly simple and you just have to pop them into the microwave in the bag that they are already contained with. Because I live alone, it means that I actually take a few out and put them into a dish to cook, and leave the remainder in the bag, however when you do microwave these in the bag, you get lots of the lovely butter and sauce left over to pour on top of the potatoes which makes them taste lovely. When microwaving, it does sizzle quite a lot and make some strange noises, but this should be expected as it states on the bag. Once they had cooked I could not wait to try these out.
So how was the taste of these? I have to admit that not only did they smell delicious, these were actually really tasty! They were not hard at all, and were in fact lovely and soft and the butter really made the texture that little more lovely. You have a tiny layer of skin around the potatoes which gives them a little crunch, but not too much. The potatoes were delicious and the herbs and butter just made it absolutely divine. You would not think that they had just come out of the microwave at all! I like to team these potatoes with a fillet of salmon, as I think it is quite a balance, healthy meal as well as being a very tasty one at that. These potatoes however could go really nicely with a wide range of main meals, and I do think that they would go lovely with meat.
The potatoes last three days which is fairly good, and I usually get mine out the fridge within the first couple of days. They are not suitable for freezing, therefore do not get pulled in by the 3 for £2.50 deal unless you know you will consume them all in time! Just thought it was important to note that.
As far as the nutritional values of these potatoes go, they are fairly good. One serving contains 125 calories, 5 grams of fat and only 0.2 grams of salt, so these are fine to consumer regularly. Obviously they are vegetarian friendly and I would recommend for everybody to try these out!
Overall, I was extremely impressed with these potatoes as they were absolutely delicious and at a steal of a price. I will continue to buy these on a regular basis as they are just so tasty, and I do urge everybody to try these out. I was not a baby potato fan until I got my hands on these! Thanks for reading.
Cooking is something that we thoroughly enjoy in our house and it is fair to say that we do love our food. My husband works up to 60 hours some weeks and is naturally very tired on the first of his days off, this usually means that one day a week we have a lovely day, relax, rest, spend time together & then either cook something very simple for dinner, use some convenience foods or order in a takeaway. This time we decided to pick up some salad, some new potatoes and some hot chicken from the counter at Tesco.
The price of these new potatoes is £1.00 per packet or 3 for £2.50 and this seems to be a frequent special offer that is usually on most times I visit Tesco for such products. The £1.00 price is very reasonable for a 375g pouch of new potatoes with herbs & butter.
The packaging is very good on these potatoes. Basically the potatoes are already coated with a dressing made from sea salt, olive oil, parsley, extra virgin olive oil, mint extract, sunflower oil & salted butter. To heat these potatoes they just need to be shaken up, laid down flat on a microwaveable plate and cooked for between 7 and 8 minutes. 8 1/2 minutes seems to be ample amount of time in our microwave for potatoes that are hot, soft and coated with a delicious now completely warmed through and melted dressing.
These potatoes were very easy to serve up, as you can imagine, and there was a nice little bit of butter left in the bottom of the packet that I could pour over the potatoes.
These potatoes are absolutely delicious. They have a skin on them still and this adds a nice bite to the outside of the potato before reaching the softer potato within. The butter mix is flavoured wonderfully and I can detect the herbs as well as the olive oil which works very well. These potatoes have a minty edge to them too which means that they work well with a variety of dishes, the mint is noticeable but not overpowering.
These are the kind of potatoes that can go well with a joint of meat or in a dish with potato salad and some cold cuts with it. These potatoes are very popular in our house and we have firmly enjoyed them, particularly the low price and the convenience of heating them up.
I absolutely adore Tesco New Potatoes With Herbs And Butter. I eat them every day for my lunch and they are very delicious.Jacky Spalek from Brighton
I love new potatoes so when I saw this pack of New Potatoes With Herbs And Butter in Tesco last week I decided to get some to try, they was only £1.00 a pack and each one will do 2 people with a meal.
This is a right good idea because all you need to do is nuke the whole pack for about 5 mins and then leave them to stand. They smell gorgeous while they're cooking and doing the potatoes in the microwave like that means you're steaming them and not wrecking the flavour by putting them in water.
I wasn't sure how good these was going to be because of having to microwave them but the potatoes are delish. They come out a bit harder than I like so I put them back in for another minute and that softened them nice. You've got a choice really, if you cook them for the time it says on the pack then the spuds will still be a bit hard but if you do the potatoes for longer then you'll lose the last bit of liquid butter in the bottom. I wasn't bothered about that because the potatoes still taste lovely and buttery and actually I prefer not having the greasy butter actually swimming round on my plate.
The potatoes taste lovely and fresh, they have still got their skins on but they are very thin skins and that makes the potatoes taste delish. The dressing is very buttery tasting and Tesco have used just the right amount of herbs to give the potatoes a gorgeous flavour but they don't over power them at all. There is also a bit of a minty taste to the potatoes that mixes nice with the herbs and brings out the yummy buttery flavour even better.
I had my potatoes with a piece of steak that my dad cooked on the bbq, it made a wickedly summery meal and was more filling than having a salad or potato wedges with the steak. It's mad what a difference a few herbs and a bit of butter can make but these spuds taste a million times nicer than plain new potatoes..... and that's saying something because new potatoes are ALWAYS yummy!!!
