Although generally speaking I think fresh is best, I always love to have a cupboard full of tins for emergencies. However one of my exceptions is chopped tomatoes. I use these quite a lot, particularly for making my cooked salsa. If I make fresh salsa then I do use fresh tomatoes but for the cooked salsa I make I do find tinned tomatoes ... These humble chopped tomatoes are the perfect ingredient to add to any Michelin star spaghetti bolognese. From personal experience I can't taste the difference between these tinned chopped tomatoes and whole tomatoes bought a couple of aisle's down from the Tesco's fruit and veg stall. This quality at this price is rarely found in modern ... Read the complete review

I have used these tomatoes lots over the years and in my opinion a chopped tomatoe is a chopped tomatoe - but is it!! What is it? ------------- chopped tomatoes are tomatoes that have been chopped - of course!! for our convenience! now we could do this ourselves but it is rather messy! these save a lot of hassle and ... I've been buying these chopped tomatoes for years and they are perfect for their price. They are sold in Tesco for 42p for a 400g tin. They have gone up in price over the last couple of months but everything has. I think these chopped tomatoes are great value for money, as some of the top brands are sold for well over a ... There are certain products that are staple products that I don't particularly think have to be massively high quality because they tend to be filler items or ingredients rather than the focus of a meal. One such product are tinned tomatoes which I always have several cans in my cupboard, but I do tend to go for the cheaper supermarket ... Read the complete review

At 33p ( 8.3p/100g) these are really good value for money! They're the perfect store cupboard staple for all money wise cooks. Suitable for vegetarians and also people on low calorie diet, they make the perfect base for any pasta meal. I would also recommend them as base for Indian sauces ( especially Jalfrezi) or blended with other ... Read the complete review

Tesco Value Chopped Tomatoes in tomato juice. I have been trying to cut down the cost of my weekly food shop by downgrading to 'Value' products where possible. I had been planning to make spaghetti bolognaise and Chilli during the week, and needed to buy some tinned tomatoes as a base for my sauces for these dishes. They are a ... Read the complete review

When it comes to tinned tomatoes they are something I buy rather often really. I make a lot of dishes requiring a can such as spaghetti bolognese and chilli con carne and the likes and for years now I have been using 'economy' brands of them (till more recently!). As a full time mum of two girls, and wife to a hungry husband, I am always looking for ways to stretch the family budget as far as I can. I also try and only cook one meal every night for all 4 of us, otherwise I cook for myself and my husband, and the girls have the leftovers the next day, if we aren't eating together. Some ... I normally buy Tesco's normal brand tomatoes however they had sold out on a recent shopping trip so I decided to get the value equivalent as I had read good reviews on here. A tin of these these tomatoes costs just 33p for 400g. The tin is pretty basic it has a white label with the red, white and blue Tesco value colours. ... Read the complete review

I love cooking! My family likes eating my food! But like any other busy mum, I have to count the pennies, especially in these difficult times, so any saving I can make when shopping, I do. I used to buy brand names when I was first married, thinking that they must be somehow superior to things like value brands, but as I have got older I ... Read the complete review

As much as I love fresh tomatoes and home grown tomatoes, it is easier and cheaper to buy them in a tin. Fresh tomatoes can be expensive and to home grow tomatoes is a bit of a hassle ( plus I'm too lazy to try!). I object to paying a premium price for chopped tomatoes since I usually use them as a base for pasta sauces or to bulk up ... Read the complete review

When I first left home I had very little money and Tesco Value brands became the main part of my diet. Some of the Tesco Value products are worse than the higher priced brands and some are perfectly edible, tinned tomatoes are one of the ones I consider to be as good if not better than the higher priced tins. I've been using Tesco Value chopped tomatoes for years now - they are a staple product in my house. The tomatoes come in a 400g can. It's not really an exaggeration to say that Tesco's tinned tomatoes kept me alive during university. I bought Tesco value chopped Tomatoes 400 grammes for the first time a little while back, and I have to say that overall I wasn't very impressed. The can is presentable, with a picture of large, succulent pieces of tomato, without massive amounts of juice. They have, as you would expect, a long shelf life, but, at £0.35 per can, I ...
