Tesco Value Red Kidney Beans
I have recently tried out the Tesco value tin of kidney beans and this is my review.
I have been trying out some of the items in the Tesco value range to see if I can save a few pence on my weekly shop and I have found that some of them are very good value but other items in the range are not that good and I will not get them again.
The packaging is very plain but this is cos it is a Tesco value item and all of the items in the Tesco value range are basic products and you are paying only for the products and not for any fancy packaging. This does not bother me to much cos I am more concerned with the item and not what packet it comes in as this goes in the bin anyway.
The tin of kidney beans has a label on the front that is mostly white in colour and it has the usual Tesco value colours of red and blue on the label as well as the Tesco value logo. The tin has all the info I need such as nutrition info and ingredients. The Tesco value kidney beans do not have a ring pull on top of the can and so you will need a tin opener to open the can.
The value kidney beans are in a thick juice in the usual way that tinned kindey beans are and so you need to give them a good rinse in a seive under a running tap of cold water before you use them in your cooking. This is easy to do and it only takes a minute.
I use the Tesco value kidney beans in a few dishes such as in Mexican food and chilli con carne. I also have used them in five bean chilli for a vegetarian friend I have and I do not find there is any difference between this cheaper brand of kidney beans and other tins of kidney beans I have used before so I would buy them in the future again for sure and have found there are no problems with this cheaper brand.
Other brands of tinned kidney beans I have used before cost around 80 pence for the tin and this is a decent enough price but the good news with the Tesco value kidney beans is that they only cost around 20 pence for the 400g tin which is a great price. I have another tin of 'usual' branded Tesco kidney beans and these cost me 70p for a 420g sized tin so you can see I managed to save a good few pennies by swapping my brand.
I will not buy the usual Tesco branded kidney beans again and instead I will be buying the Tesco value kidney beans.............. They taste the same, they look the same and they cook as well as other brands so why bother with dearer brands? I am very happy I tried out this cheaper brand and I would suggest giving them a try yourself.
