Sorry, this is yet another rum review. Rum is my favourite drink, it is highly drinkable and you can mix it in many weird and wonderful cocktails. I have been on a few holidays to the Caribbean and Jamaica was my favourite place; because of the rum. Appletons was a relatively new brand to me and I only really discovered it whilst on holiday. We took a trip to the distillery and learnt all about the molasses used to make their rums and the different flavours and blends. This white rum was the standard white rum offered by the all inclusive hotel. As you can imagine, I drank quite a lot of it.
==Price and availability==
You can buy this for around £16 a bottle and it is available in good bars. It is a middle of the range rum but in terms of white rums, it is of high quality and flavour. Golden and dark rums are my favourite but this is a highly mixable white rum and good value for money.
This is white rum and it has been filtered through carbon filters to make it as clear and pure as possible. The rum is 40 % proof and it tastes smooth, however it still has a harsh after taste that you often get from white rum. I prefer dark rum as it is sweeter than white. This is very clear and for this reason it works well in a cocktail.
Once you have visited the distillery of a certain brand, you become slightly more biased towards it. I have seen the hard work going into this drink and for this reason I rate it quite highly in my estimations. When I first arrived at my hotel in Jamaica, I was disappointed that Havana club was not served as this is usually my favourite rum. By the end of the holiday, I was like, Havana who? I had converted into an Appleton girl in a fortnight!
There are much more tastier and better rums out there, there are certainly better Appleton rums, especially some golden ones but as a white rum priced at the lower end of the market, you are getting good value for money here. It can hold its own against blanco Havana and White barcadi, but it is much cheaper. This is definitely worth a try.
Appleton White Jamaica Rum is a blend of rich pot and light column still rums and, unlike many other white rums, it is filtered slowly through special charcoal filters. Appleton White is a light-bodied rum that is brilliantly clear and exceptionally smooth. Appleton White Jamaica Rum is highly mixable and serves as the perfect complement to soft drinks, fruit juices and exotic punches. Anything gin and vodka can do, Appleton White can do better.
