Black is the colour of darkness... and coincidently this vodka. This spirit will certainly add a great touch to any Halloween party. Black, other than being dark and eerie is also the colour of sophistication and style. Take the little black dress for example. Black is stylish and distinctive and this is certainly what this vodka represents. The brand claim that the clarity and taste of the vodka is not distorted, it is just the colour that is different. However, I do find that it tastes different to normal vodka but I still like it a lot. ==Price and availability== I bought a bottle from the airport and I paid £9.99 for a 750cl bottle. It was a good buy as it came with a cool zip up cool cover. I have seen this for sale in Tesco for £14.99 for a 750cl bottle. I think this is a decent price to pay for such a good bottle of premium vodka. ==Taste and look== The black vodka smells potent and smells just like regular vodka. I always think it smells like paint stripper so it is pretty foul really. The liquid looks thicker than regular vodka but I do believe that this is an illusion that the colour creates. The liquid is black in the bottle but when you pour it, it has a more blue/ purple look; however it is still really dark. The vodka has a different taste to regular vodka and although the brand claim that it tastes the same, I really find that this has a very medicinal, botanical flavour to it. It is not offensive but it certainly has a quality to it. I like it but if you use it in some vodka cocktails you will find that the taste is marred slightly because of this taste. Black catechu which is an extractfrom a certain tree in Asia is used to make the colouring so at least you know there are no nasty E numbers in the food colouring. ==Cocktail fun== You will buy this because of the colour more than anything and it is a fantastic spirit for cocktails. It is 40% proof, so it can be used as an vodka substitute. I love cranberry juice and vodka and this simple drink can be spiced up by layering the vodka on the juice. The black vodka floats on top of the red cranberry juice and it looks like the most perfect Halloween cocktail. The only downside is when you mix it up and you get a glass of dark purple juice. This cocktail has earned the name "Black widow." There are many excellent cocktails that need this as one of the ingredients . The Vampire cocktail is a superb drink that uses black raspberry cassis, apple juice and black vodka. Again the black vodka is floated on the top so you end up with a thrice layered drink. I love drinking cocktails with this spirit and I even love it straight on the rocks as a shooter. I have grown out of shooters though so I will stick to my sophisticated cocktails!
Truly black and in blind tastings, Blavod Black Vodka is chosen number one nearly every time. It's black colour is achieved with Black Catechu, a herb from Burma, creating a smooth and soft vodka.
