      Advantages

      Disadvantages

      Absolutely superb in every way

Dalwhinnie is the a classic single malt from the highlands of Scotland characterised by its light colour and honey undertaste.

      Dalwhinnie

Dalwhinnie is the highest distillery in Scotland, and produces a single malt. This malt is one of the six classic malts along with such malts as Talisker, Oban etc. This is one of the best whiskys in the world and the 15 year old single malt is one of the best and is a reasonable price at around £30.

Dalwhinnie comes in a distinctive all white box with the Dalwhinnie name in scroll work on the front, there is also a potted history of the distillery on the back with the statment that this is a classic malt.

The bottle inside is a strange shape, its reminiscent of a cowbell with a broad base and a wide neck but is shorter than other whiskey bottles again the white label with the name in scroll work comes through.

      The colour

Dalwhinnie is a pale malt, its one of the lightest malts available and comes in a pale gold colour, this gives an immediatley feeling that the drink will be light and refreshing.

      Smell

Untouched Dalwhinnie has an aroma of citus with a malt and a hint of honey.

      Taste

Dalwhinnie is a smooth whisky, it doesn't have the burn associated with other whiskys. It has a sense of honey, lemon, the earthiness from the peat soil and a slight sweetness.

      Overall

Dalwhinnie is without doubt a great whisky, it has complex flavours but also a smooth side. There are hints of the highland gourse, peat and honey along with more abstract tastes like chocolate and lemon. This is a whisky too be enjoyed, to be sniffed, to be rolled in the glass and watch the colours move in your hand. Overall this is a drink to be savoured, save your Bells or Grants for having a drink after work but save your Dalwhinnie for a Saturday night after a nice meal.

I personally love Dalwhinnie all on its own with just a drop of water to enhance the flavour, you don't need ginger, coke or lemonade let the whisky speak and enjoy it.

Dalwhinnie is a contender for the best commonly available whisky, it is without doubt superior to anything else we all can afford.
