We tend to drink quite a lot of vodka in our house.....
One of our favourite vodka brands is Danzka Vodka. I discovered Danzka vodkas for the first time when flying in and out of Copenhagen airport when we lived in Southern Sweden and then in Denmark. I picked up a gift pack which had a mini 50ml bottle of each of the four different flavoured Danzka vodkas in, they all turned out to be really nice and we've continued to buy all four of the different flavours ever since.
As the name would suggest Danzka is a Danish vodka, it's made from 100% whole-wheat Danish wheat, and it's produced and bottled in Denmark. The Danzka vodka range includes; Danzka Red (the original and unflavoured 40% ABV vodka), Danzka Fifty (a 50% ABV unflavoured vodka), and then four different flavoured versions - Citrus (lemon flavoured vodka), Currant (vodka with a hint of blackcurrant), Grapefruit (vodka with a twist of grapefruit) and CranberryRaz (vodka infused with cranberry and raspberry) - which is the flavour that I'm reviewing now.
All of the Danzka vodka varieties are sold in really funky brushed aluminium cylindrical bottles, they have a very streamlined, sophisticated and modern look, and they are very elegant and very Scandinavian looking in design. The metal bottle was designed for more than just its funky looks though, it was also designed to chill the vodka faster than a glass bottle would do.
Danzka CranberryRaz vodka was the first cranberry and raspberry flavoured vodka in the world, and it is described as ''providing you with an intriguing taste sensation with the wild sweetness of raspberry combined with the more discreet and tart cranberry infused in this smooth aromatic vodka''. Danzka CranberryRaz vodka is 40% ABV.
CranberryRaz is definitely my favourite flavour out of the four, and the one that we bought the most often. I love both cranberries and raspberries and so it's probably no surprise that I should love this. From the description you would think that the raspberry would be the strongest flavour, but I actually thought that the cranberry was the strongest flavour in this vodka. You can definitely taste both the cranberries and the raspberries in this, and the vodka has a very smooth and yet a very tart and fruity taste to it. It isn't sweet or sickly at all, it actually has quite a natural fruity taste, it doesn't have a synthetic fruity taste either.
CranberryRaz is perfect when served chilled, either on it's own over ice if that's your preference (my husband likes it this way), or when mixed with your favourite mixer or in a cocktail. I think that it's especially nice with just soda water or tonic water as neither of these mask the cranberry and raspberry taste, they just seem to emphasise it. It's also really nice with just cranberry juice, I know that this seems a bit odd, cranberry(raz) vodka and cranberry juice, but honestly it's delicious, it has a really intense cranberry kick to it this way.
I very often bought a bottle of CranberryRaz when passing through Copenhagen airport, either for ourselves, or as a gift for someone. I think that CranberryRaz makes an ideal Christmas gift for someone as cranberries are typically associated with Christmas. I would find that more often than not Copenhagen airport would always have some sort of offer on Danzka vodkas. I do still actually buy a bottle of this when I go back and visit friends. Admittedly it's not as cheap now as it used to be a few years ago, but this is due to the falling exchange rates.
