English Harbour - 3 Year Old
Advantages: good quality white rum
Disadvantages: hard to source
Rum is perhaps my most favourite tipple, I love its sweetness and its richness. I have tried many different brands; my rights I prefer dark rum but I am also partial to white rum when I spot a bargain. I bought some lovely Appleton's rum when I went to Jamaica so when I next visited the Caribbean, at the liquor store I made a beeline for the rum section so I could buy some more lovely rum. This is where I came across this rum. Despite its name, it is not an English drink and it come from Antigua.
==Price and availability==
I paid £7 for this bottle of rum and I could not resist the price. It was a great buy as it is actually a very good rum. I was in Barbados at the time and most of the other rums were also attractively priced but this was perhaps the best bargain. You can source this on the internet but I have not discovered it in a supermarket.
This is white rum and states it has been distilled for three years. For this reason, it tastes richer and sweeter than straight up white rum. It is full of flavour and there is no harsh after taste, it is rather a smooth drink. The bottle was 75CL but there was also a larger bottle on offer, however I did not want to buy a big bottle of a rum when I was not sure about the brand.
The rum tastes nice, it is not as nice as Appleton's or Havana three years; both of which are golden rather than white. It taste smooth and sweet but it is not as smooth as a bottle of golden rum. I took this bottle of rum to my sisters New Years Eve party and we made Pina Coladas and Mojitos ( In tea pots, very fun) and the liquor mixed well and tasted well in a cocktail. I did try the liquor with my usual mix of coke and lime too and it tasted fine, better than other rums but not as nice as my favourites. I can definitely taste the difference with rums.
This is a very smooth white rum but white rum on the whole is not my favourite. What I did learn from buying this bargain bottle is that English Harbour is a brand not to be sniffed at and I would love to try some of the 5 yr or dark rums. This is a decent bottle for the money and if I venture to the Caribbean in the future I will look out for it.
Summary: a good quality white rum from Antigua.
