Disadvantages: Too much can lead to disaster!
Goldschlager is a Swiss cinnamon schnapps drink. It is 43.5% ABV and what makes this drink really special is that it has little flakes of real gold floating in it. The drink is a clear liquid in a glass bottle and when you give the bottle a shake, the gold flakes swirl around and look amazing.
To taste, the drink has a sweet, syrupy flavour. After you swallow the cinnamon taste hits you. I find the cinnamon taste to be similar to that of red Aftershock, for those of you who have tried it.
Due to the high alcohol percentage of this drink, it is best drunk either as a shot or combined with a mixer. It can also be used in cocktails. I generally will take Goldschlager as a shot, but have also enjoyed it mixed with diet coke. A popular way to drink it is as a Glitterbomb, where a shot of Goldschlager is dropped into a glass of red bull/energy drink (similar to a Jagerbomb only using Goldschlager instead of Jagermeister!).
I love Goldschlager in particular at Christmas time, as I think the gold flakes and the cinnamon taste give it a real Christmasy feel! It is definitely a drink that should be enjoyed in small amounts as too much leaves me feeling rosy cheeked and with the occasional slurring of words.
Goldschlager is a more expensive schnapps drink, with a 70cl bottle usually costing around £21-23 depending on where you buy it. For this reason it is something I only consume at Christmas time as a bit of a treat.
For those of you who haven't tried it and like cinnamon, I would definitely recommend giving it a go!
Thanks for reading/rating and I hope you found my review helpful.
