Advantages: Makes for a fun evening
Disadvantages: Could make for a messy evening
...Those were the last words I remember leaving my mouth. And then half a pint of tequila and champagne were slammed and poured down my throat. Needless to say - I was not very well the following morning.
If it Tequila you want, with no frills or added extras, then this is the one to get.
It is smooth and easily drinkable, though it is wise not to sniff it before swallowing.
It is not a drink to sip at slowly over the course of the evening. Neither is it a drink to be messed around with lightly, knocking back as many as is possible in the four hours of pub time available. Though if you want to get drunk quickly, this is a good place to start.
It has the appearance of vodka or gin, but the effects of meths.
You can buy much cheaper Tequila than Jose Cuervo, but it really is the best.
I would like to dedicate this story to all those who have embellished it over the years to make me look more ridulous.
A Night of Tequila Hell (A short story with a lesson to us all)
I was sixteen years old when I first discovered Satan's Spirit. It was a work party. I was an usher in a theatre and it was tradition on every opening night to throw a huge party. Part of this tradition ? which had run for many years already and many more to come ? was the drinking of tequila slammers.
In this case the tequila was mixed with champagne - this was theatre after all dahhhlings - and a small area was marked off for the experience to take place.
On the floor was huge X which you had to stand on. On the side was a small X - this was where you slammed your glass. In the sink another X ?this was where you emptied yourself if need be!
The salt and lemon were always standing by. So, one at a time you took your place on the large X. The concoction was poured in to the slim-jim. A lick of salt, a swirl, a thud, and down it went. Usually with a grimace, the glass replaced and the lemon
On a usual evening you would get three or four goes ? some people always wimped out which ultimately left more for the rest of us.
You can feel fine on Tequila for a good hour after imbibing.
You can sit quite naturally on a table and chat away. What you don't realise is this. The moment you go to move, your legs lose all feeling and you end up on the floor in a heap.
Somehow - I have no idea how, I went on to a house party. I don't recall very much. Being ill over a fence, lying in the road looking at the stars, kissing someone I'd never met before - but the slammers came with us.
I walked into the kitchen where there was girl from work with a pint glass half full of tequila. I wondered in and spoke those now famous words "I want one like hers."
I woke up the next morning with a towel round my neck, a bucket between my legs and cuts all up my arms and legs.
My father was ignoring me. My sister was laughing at me. And my mum, bless her, cooked me a fry up.
I have never been so ill in my life.
Jose is responsible for many a great evening in bars and at parties since this night, though I have never been quite as keen as I was when younger.
Drink it to moderation. Enjoy it. And if you lose feeling in your legs ? stop drinking it at once.
I would like to thank Jose Cuervo for giving me the experience from which to write this review.
