unfortunately this review is not for the product in the picture, that is the old blend with the green bottle top and different label design- it is not available anymore.
my review is for the newer blend, with the red bottle top.
the reason for the change was to implement a new flavor designed to appeal to first time rum drinkers- in short a rum for children...
it's much much sweeter than the old blend, and much weaker at just 30% abv compared to the old one's 40%. this of course has the effect of making it less noticeable in drinks, which is both good and bad. if you use a standard measure in coke it all but disappears- it's the same as a vodka mix, you can tell something's in your drink but you can't tell what- this must appeal to people who want to be seen to be drinking something 'cool' and different, but don't actually want to taste it. When you go for a double measure you get a much nicer drink, you can taste the spices in the rum, and the sweet vanilla that goes perfectly with coke.
Despite the lower percentage, if you're doubling up your quantities you might find yourself drinking more than you expected, so be careful about that.
it's actually quite hard to find in shops, most bars will have it but many supermarkets will only carry the lambs navy rum, and captain morgans spiced, not this lower proof 'rum'- so if you want it best to buy it online.
As I said the taste is nice, but the best thing I can say is how cheap it is, only £13 for a 70cl bottle, that's crazy cheap- even at 30%
Lamb's Spiced is expertly blended Golden Caribbean Rum with natural flavours of vanilla, cinnamon and lime.
