A good white rum from Lidl

My hubby and I enjoy a nice glass of Bacardi, but frankly the brand name price is absolutely shocking, so we have long since learned to compromise our tastes and try other brands.

Frankly, we have been successful, we know which shop sells a white rum brand that we are happy with..

The particular brand I would like to review here is iIberte White Rum. We really like it, and will chose it as a favourite over the leading brand.

It was not until I started to do this review, that I realised I should research a bit about it (I appreciate that it is not enough telling you that I like it) that I realised that I am not the only person that thinks this is a good drink. Liberte White Rum has also won the following awards, so the Lidl's web site tells us.

      International Spirits Challenge 2012
Rating: Silver - Best in Class

      International Spirits Challenge 2011
      Rating: Bronze

IWSC International Wine & Spirit Competition 2011
      Rating: Silver

IWSC International Wine & Spirit Competition 2010
      Rating: Bronze

And deservedly too! Liberte is 37.5% proof, which is the same as the brand name. It is as little as half price too sometime.. granted, the brand name does often have special offers, but rarely does it fall under £15, whereas LIberte sells for around the £9-£10 mark for a 70cl bottle.

It has a distinctive taste, compared to the brand name - in fact I would say it is the only white rum I have personally tasted that has a unique taste to it. Hard to describe, but I think it is the sweetness - a burnt sweetness could be a good description, my husband always comments that it reminds him of toffee apples.

Like any other spirit, it is only as good as the mixer that you put with it, so my recommendation is that you buy brand name Coke, Ice cubes and a slice of lemon and you really can't go far wrong.

Lidl's stock this Liberte White Rum and I do not know of anywhere else in the UK that does, certainly none of the main supermarkets do not stock it.

However, as an added bonus, two years ago we went to Corfu on holiday, self catering - we hired a car and went out for a drive, stopping off for some groceries.. being shocked at the alcohol prices at the bar where we were staying, we thought we would buy ourselves a bottle of something - and yes! even in Lidl's in Corfu they stocked Liberte. My holiday got better and better from here-on!

Might be worth mentioning, someone could be interested - Liberte White Rum also has a Facebook page!

Certainly worth a try if your tipple is White Rum
