Advantages: You have to be more creative.
Disadvantages: Can be more dangerous
Essentially this is simply a matter of personal preference, and as you can see form my title I prefer street skating, and I wish to offer my opinions on why it is better. Everybody hates being in a crowded park with BMXers flying round the park with no brakes, and skateboarders who don't care whether they carve across your line or not. There is nothing more infuriating when you are going for a trick than somebody getting in your way. This does not happen at a street spot as it is not often that you get a huge group of people at one street spot who are not in the same crew. Another fact is that street skating is much more creative. You are not restricted into the walls of one building, where the lines are obvious as soon as you walk into the park. This makes street a lot more interesting, as you have to actively go out and search for new things to try. Handrails, gaps and planters are scattered all over the world. They just have to be sought out, which is half the fun of street skating. I also find that street skating is a lot more chilled out, with people taking part in all extreme sports on the street like BMXer's and skateboarders, just getting along with each other, not taking part in the myth about a fued between skaters and people taking part in other sports. This myth is actively taken part in at skateparks. There is always so much backbiting at these other sports in parks. The whole air of park skating is that of competition, not having fun which is the whole point of skating. This is the main reason why I find street skating a better experience than the stresses of park skating. It's not hard to enjoy skating after all!

- 09/01/01 I love skating, but haven't been able to since I got pregnant with my son. I used to love skating in the street, but skating in Kensington Gardens was pretty good too - The Broadwalk is huge so there was plenty of space! |

- 04/01/01 Boarding isnt that restrictive, You can board pretty much anywhere you can blade. I'd have to agree about BMX's though, what is their problem? |
