Advantages: Comfortable, great support, reasonable price
Disadvantages: Nothing
I suffer from a slight fallen arch on my left foot due to a leg length discrepancy (cue jokes about running in circles!) and as such I needed to wear insoles for a bit. When I decided to buy a decent pair of running shoes I went along to my local running shop for a fitting and to see what they thought about which shoes would be best for me.
I tried a few different ones on, and had my stride recorded and analysed to see which ones were the best for me. I tried a pair on that I could wear my insoles with, but the staff decided that I should try a pair of Brooks' which a specially designed for more support. These seemed to do the business and I happily bought them there and then.
Not really having bought another pair of shoes in another brand, I can't really comment on how they shape up against others, but they were relatively cheap compared to some brands (£85). The shoe is well made and hardwearing (I've worn them out in the rain and mud and they are holding up fine). I have bought another pair this year as my old ones were looking a bit tired, but I have been using them every week for over a year.
The shoe offers a great deal of support, and you can see the various types and densities of foam rubber used in the soles, working their way into the middle of the arch, where the sole id the most stable.
The shoes are comfortable and breathable and are great for running. The first pair I had were a florescent yellow and grey, which was better than it sounds, but the new ones are the same as the pair above. Generally speaking, they are a dream to run in, offer plenty of protection and cushioning and are hardwearing.
If you are a serious runner (or maybe even not that serious) and need a pair of running shoes, I suggest that you get yourself down to your local running shop and get fitted for a pair. I can't comment on which shoes are the best because everyone's different and you should end up with a pair that is best suited for you. However, if like me you need some support, you may well end up with a pair of Brooks Adrenaline GTS9 and all I can say is that you won't be disappointed.
Now get out there and get some serious miles under your belt!
Summary: A fantastic running shoe for those who need extra support
