Advantages: trendy

Disadvantages: cannot be used as sportswear

DKNY is the diffusion line from American designer Donna Karan (who excels at minimalist, pared down chic leisurewear). DKNY stands for Donna Karan New York and is a lot cheaper than the main line. The clothes are mainly sporty and funky and are very hard wearing. The same can be said of the trainers. As well as in the emporium on New Bond Street you can also find Donna Karan trainers in some big department stores or in the shoe shop Russell and Bromley (for more info on the Russell and Bromley shop see my other op).

For a designer brand the trainers are no more expensive than Nike or Adidas and you can expect to pick up a pair for around £60 to £130 although I once found a bargain pair in the sale for £35. The look ranges from ultra trendy (shiny silver and iridescent), casual (suede 'converse' type look) or sporty (with 'go faster' stripes). As I said earlier these shoes are very hard wearing and if you are just using them to go walking around in the they could last you up to a year and still look good.

One thing that I must stress is that these trainers should not be used for exercising in. They are purely fashion trainers only. The reason I say this is that I made the mistake of using them to work out in and after about a month my calves got very stiff and sore as I was not getting the proper cushioning needed to protect your joints that a pair of specially designed cross trainers/ running trainers have built into them.

So if you want to look cool on the street then a pair of DKNY trainers are perfect, however if you are in the gym, stick to something that comes recommended from your sports shop/ sports centre such as a pair of Nikes.
