Advantages: helps lose a few pounds and gives the skina detox

Disadvantages: the look if you get a cheap one

Some time ago, I was Decathlon looking for more items to help my on my quest to lose a few pounds, when a friend of mine suggested that I try out the sweat suit.

And to be honest with you I let out a laugh and said no way at first, the reason being for this bout of laughter is that this particular sweat suit (or sauna suit as it's also called) is made from 100% PVC. ... 100% PVC I hear you say, leave those thought behind people, were in Decathlon not Ann Summers!

Apart from it being Navy PVC, it also resembles a black plastic bin liner with a piece of elastic around the limb holes and neck. Not very stylish at all, but cheap at only £8 (£6.50ish now 11th 2008)

What made me buy it really was my friend's sales patter, even though he doesn't work for the store he did explain to me how it worked, like he explained to me boxers wear them whilst trying to drop a weight for a fight and so on, hang on I like the physical sports how come i hadn't heard of these suits before him. ... Hmmm ... never mind that was ages ago and I know more about them now, so I'll just figure that out later, but for now I'll tell you what this little gem of a suit does!

Once you've popped your suit on and ready for your choice of work out, the use of the suit is pretty simple. Just work out like you normally would whether it is step, crunches, jogging on the spot, using a glider, punch bag or jumping rope. The sweat suit will do its job perfectly well, what it is designed to do is heat up your body whilst working out thus making you sweat creating a sauna like atmosphere between you and your suit, which in turn makes you sweat more, ridding your body of fluid and toxins, but due to the rise in body temperature, your body is supposed to burn more calories and help speed up your metabolism. Which would be possible is you used it on a regular basis. Also due to the amount of fluid you sweat I have noticed that it does temporarily firm up the skin in problem areas.

There are a few things that you have to remember about the suit though, the first think being (like I always say), you only get out what you put in, so if you put the suit on to watch Eastenders nothing is gong to happen, if you put is on to hover and do general house work it will make you sweat slightly with not many results, but if you put it on and have a good work out then it will serve its full purpose and have you drenched within 15 minutes to half and hour depending on how hard your working your body.

The second thing to remember is when using the suit you are ridding your body of lots of fluid and toxins, the removal of toxins are great and gives your skin a good boost, but the lose of fluid could be dangerous (I'm no doctor, but water is one of life's essentials). When I first used the suit I felt a bit faint, so my friend suggested that I had a few mouthfuls of water at regular intervals when exercising which helped.

Cleaning the suit is also easy, when you take it of I suggest taking it off so it is inside out then you can give it a good wipe over to dry up all the sweat from the inside but be careful no to flick sweat everywhere like I've done on a few occasions body, then wipe your body over and give your self a few minutes before jumping in the shower as I found that if you go in sweating you come out sweating ... Sounds crazy I know but really I find that after wearing the suit, if I jump in the shower straight away I come out still sweating .... Any doctors out there wanting to answer that one for me, feel free to leave a comment.

I would also suggest wearing a light t - shirt and shorts under the suit, to soak up some of the fluid that you perspire, as it makes working out more comfortable and cleaning up easier.

*** Other Options ***

I bought the PVC version of the sweat suit from Decathlon for about £8, The PVC suit is the cheaper option which suited me at the time as I wasn't sure I was gong to like it or not.

But you can buy better versions of the suit, which are made from vinyl or nylon, with nylon apparently being the better of the two materials for around £35. Which I may invest in, as even though the are a bit more expensive the look more like a jogging suit rather than an old sagging, baggy bin bag. Enabling you to be able to wear it out jogging or in a gym.

I would suggest if you are going to go for a dearer one to try sweatsuit.co.uk or sauna-suits.com as they have more of an attractive range.

But do shop about as well all know there are deals out there, just waiting for us!

*** Overall Opinion ***

I like my sweat suit, okay it might look a bit nasty when on (and off) but it helps me out not by just using it a few weeks running up to that big night out, when I'm wanting to squeeze into the trousers the tumble dryer shrunk. ... Yes, it was the tumble dry!
I also wear it when I fancy having a bit of a detox and giving my skin and body a bit of a cleansing. Shame they don't do one or the face. ... Anyone mention gimp and we'll be having words.

So would I recommend you get one of these super not so sexy suits. ... That would be a yes, If your just going to wear it about the house sure grab one for as cheap as you can like I did, but if your going to be out and about in it, like up in the gym or at a training session the I would suggest looking at finding a design you like and paying a bit more for one that's a bit harder wearing.

Thanks for reading x
