Advantages: UK Company, well made, does the job well

Disadvantages: Price a bit high

Peak UK are a manufacturer of kayak clothing and equipment based in Nottingham.

The Peak Adventure Zip is a buoyancy aid ideal for touring, sea kayaking, instructing and adventure racing.

So what makes this bouyancy aid so good?

1. It's ISO approved so meets all the necessary safety regulations.
2. The cut allows for high performance
3. It's made of tough ripstop Cordura with a nylon shell. Shoulders and sides are made of neoprene.
4. The soft foam inside is self moulding
5. For the perfect fit there are shoulder, waist and side straps.
6. It has 2 front zip pockets with gear clips
7. Large back pocket for drinks system or flares
8. Internal mesh zip pocket
9. Reflective stripes

It only comes in one colour red/grey and 3 sizes s/m, L/XL, XXL

My Experience
I'm on my second of these buoyancy aids now and I love them. It's the first one that I have found that fits well, is comfortable and does the job.

This particular buoyancy aid is an improvement on the last one:
· Zipped pockets so things don't fall out should you end up in the water
· Internal pocket for extra security
· Gear loops for compass or knife to be attached to

Its good to see that they are obviously listening to their customers and making these improvements.

You get a drinks system included but each one I've had has split so I just use my camelbak.

Its really comfortable to wear, I almost forget I have it on. When I've been out with friends whenever we stop they all take their buoyancy aids off as soon as we stop. Me, I keep mine on most of the time.

It's really hard wearing. My first one lasted 3 years, countless sea trips including 14 days in Greenland on expedition, open canoeing trips and messing about in the sea swimming. I still have it but only use it for messing around in the sea in.

Many people won't realise that you should test your buoyancy aid after a few years just to check that it does still meet the requirements. You attach a weight to it and put it into water for a length of time. If it stays floating its ok, if it sinks....well you don't want to be wearing that when it counts!!

So what does it cost £99 upwards. Yes it does seem quite expensive but this is an item that could help save your life so certainly one that I would never skimp on.

You can buy these online and in some watersport shops.

Summary: A superb bouyancy aid to keep you safe on your adventures.

Glad to know you test it sometimes just in case.
