Advantages: Price, hard wearing
Disadvantages: Neoprene ankles, sizing
Peak UK are a manufacturer of kayak clothing and equipment based in Nottingham.
These are the ideal lightweight-paddling trouser, ideal for wearing open canoeing or sea kayaking.
They have a high back so that they don't ride down when you are sitting.
The bum and knees are articulated giving a good fit and aiding movement.
All seams are fully taped to improve waterproofness.
The trousers are breathable and durable, made from X2.5 nylon with Cordura knees and bum, added protection on these hardwearing areas.
The ankles are neoprene and have a Velcro enclosure over the top to give a good seal.
The waistband is made of neoprene with an elasticated draw cord.
There is a pocket on the leg with a gear loop.
They come in the following sizes XS. S. M. L. XL. XXL. And only in one colour Grey / Black.
My Experience
I've had a pair of these for a year or two now and wear then when I am open canoeing. The high back is great and the neoprene waistband is really comfortable. They have been really hard wearing and with the added protection on the knees and bum I'm not worrying about tearing them.
My only complaint is that the ankles have neoprene seals which are more comfortable than latex but certainly are not as waterproof. Ideally I'd like these trousers to have socks attached which are waterproof.
The sizings for these are quite small. They are made for slalom paddlers who tend to be tall, skinny men!! I would definitely advise trying on first. Don't expect them to look good on you - I've yet to see anyone that they fit perfectly!!
They cost around £66 and can be bought from many online retailers of watersport clothing.
Summary: Great trousers for kayak and canoe touring.
